Job summary

A municipal corporation in Ontario is seeking three enthusiastic Summer Students for the Youth Leader in Training position. This role involves assisting children aged 4-12 during summer camps, promoting inclusive activities, and ensuring safety and well-being. Ideal candidates should be at least 14 years old, possess or be able to obtain Standard First Aid with CPR, and have an interest in working with children. This seasonal position offers up to 24 hours per week at a rate of $16.60/hour until September 2026.

Summer Student - Youth Leader in Training

Town of Tillsonburg is looking for three (3) enthusiastic Youth Leaders in Training who would be responsible for assisting in the care of youths, ages 4-12 years old attending camp. This is a training position to increase knowledge and awareness of program content and leadership styles. This is a seasonal student position with an option to enroll in OMERS defined benefit pension plan.

  • Division: Recreation Programs and Services
  • Reports To: Programs Supervisor
  • Contract: June 15, 2026 - September 4, 2026
  • Hourly Rate: $16.60/hour
  • Weekly Hours: up to 24
  • Vacancy: 3 (new)

Criminal Record Check required for this position. If over eighteen (18) years of age, a Vulnerable Sector Check will be required.

Responsibilities
  • Helps facilitate youth activities and helps ensure programming is inclusive and adapted to every child's needs.
  • Closely monitors participants' conduct and provides ongoing supervision.
  • Motivates and encourages each child to participate during all activities.
  • Assists with the keeping of attendance records.
  • Prioritizes and ensures child well-being, safety, and protection.
  • Reports all accidents/incidents, problems or concerns to the Youth Leader or the Program Coordinator.
  • Assists with set-up and cleanup of all activities.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Follows all Town policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • High School Student – minimum 14 years of age
  • Standard First Aid with CPR Level C or the ability to obtain it
  • HIGH FIVE training in the Principles of Healthy Child Development; Principles in Action; Healthy Mind, Healthy Child or the ability to obtain it.
  • Interest in working with children.
  • Interest in facilitating activities including crafts, sports, music and/or games.
  • Ability to help facilitate activities on a daily basis.
  • Excellent customer service and time management skills.
  • Hard working, motivated and reliable – with the ability to attend work regularly and punctually.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and accept and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively.
  • Ability to attend all orientation and training sessions.
  • Availability to work for duration of the summer.
  • Must be returning to school in the Fall.
