We put strategy, research, design principles, and technical innovation at the center of everything we do. We are a leader when it comes to exceptional digital experiences in the financial space and our focus on our users is an integral part of this success. As an intern student on our team, you will be immersed in an environment that fosters creativity and a learning mindset.

This internship offers hands‑on experience in designing intuitive, user‑centered digital solutions that enhance the client experience across multiple platforms. As part of our team, you will collaborate with designers, developers, and product managers to translate user insights into actionable design solutions.

What will you do?

  • Conduct research to understand user needs, pain points, and behaviors, translating findings into actionable insights.
  • Design and prototype intuitive interfaces, including wireframes, low‑fidelity sketches, and high‑fidelity prototypes (training and mentorship provided).
  • Develop and refine reusable UI components, patterns, and design system documentation to ensure consistency (no prior experience required—we’ll guide you!).
  • Apply design principles, accessibility standards, and best practices to optimize the client experience (learning opportunities included).
  • Create and deliver content strategies that align with user needs and RBC’s digital voice.
  • Support usability testing and research activities to evaluate prototypes and improve user experiences.
  • Simplify complex problems and present solutions through effective visualizations and frameworks.
  • Contribute to iterative design processes in an agile environment, collaborating with cross‑functional teams.
  • Demonstrate a proactive, learning mindset by taking initiative, sharing ideas, and seeking growth opportunities.
What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

  • Knowledge in interaction design, visual design, content design, or design research, with a willingness and enthusiasm to learn much more.
  • Strong communication, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • A portfolio or examples of work demonstrating creativity or problem‑solving skills (academic or personal projects welcome). *Please share links to your portfolio/examples of your work on your resume*
  • Passion for learning about user behavior, design principles, and emerging technologies.
Nice to have:
  • Familiarity with design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite) or web technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Experience with data visualization or automation tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
  • Ability to interpret and communicate complex technical insights to non‑technical stakeholders.
Please note:

In order to be eligible for these student positions, you must either:

  • Be returning back to school after the work term end‑date; or
