The IT Operations Consultant will lead several high-profile initiatives, focusing on IT operations, organizational design, IT service management, and modernization efforts including cloud and modern workplace enablement.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the implementation of the ITOM (service-optimized); monitor progress and address gaps in IT maturity, capabilities, and operating effectiveness.
- Establish foundational IT processes (ITOM) based on prioritized gaps to better fulfill business expectations and improve IT efficiency.
- Plan and execute IT organizational structure and functional design enhancements based on target state model, new/updated role definitions, and evolving business requirements.
- Lead job description development and modification of IT roles; facilitate stakeholder reviews (HR, Joint Job Evaluation Committee) and support talent acquisition and recruitment.
- Track and report divisional headcount against the workforce plan in alignment with priorities and initiatives.
- Monitor IT capacity utilization and identify optimization opportunities to balance run vs grow needs of the business.
- Support collaboration, communication, and engagement improvements through coaching, mentoring, and upskilling of internal IT staff and leadership.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the CTO on IT strategy, priority initiatives, service improvements, and optimization opportunities.
- Oversee planning and implementation of foundational technology capabilities including cloud, integration, and data work streams; provide guidance and address risks.
- Support the implementation of cloud strategy and roadmap initiatives including Azure landing zone, cloud operating model, production readiness, and pilot migrations.
- Lead a cross-functional team to deliver complex IT risk mitigation initiatives in a senior leadership capacity.
- Oversee modern workplace enablement of MS Office 365 including Exchange Online and SharePoint migrations, plus OneDrive and MS Teams implementation.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and prioritize IT project/portfolio requirements and deliverables.
- Support IT risk governance, project integration, and dependency management across multiple work streams.
- Manage project/portfolio risks and issues; provide regular updates to executives and senior leadership as required.
- Manage and track IT resourcing across the portfolio including staff augmentation and procurement of external services to achieve outcomes.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external vendors and stakeholders involved in project delivery across the portfolio.
- Coach and mentor IT project teams to meet expected competency and performance outcomes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Senior level IT executive (director or above) experience in workers’ compensation or insurance industry, responsible for critical IT operations, end user services, and IT service management.
- Hands-on experience with ITOM patterns including design and implementation of the "Pattern Three–Service Optimizing Operating Model".
- Experience leading IT organization design and defining new/modified roles in collaboration with HR and other stakeholders.
- IT capability development and process improvement experience in a complex public sector environment.
- Senior IT leadership and governance experience delivering complex multi-year projects/portfolios including technology remediation and change initiatives.
- Azure Cloud infrastructure enablement, migration and operational management oversight experience.
- Modern workplace technology enablement and operational management including Office 365 delivery, Exchange Online, SharePoint migrations, OneDrive, and MS Teams implementation.
- Ability to coach and develop internal IT staff for improved engagement, performance, and career development.
Preferred / Assets
- Strategic vendor management experience including supplier governance and negotiations.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience with Project Management Institute (PMI) methodology and PMP certification.
- Ability to manage competing demands, multiple priorities, and changes in direction seamlessly.
- Excellent communication, consultation, and mediation skills for addressing complex issues.
