Job description
Position Summary

Are you a hands-on technician with a passion for precision and problem-solving? We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Structured Cabling Technician to join our growing team at our Burnaby location.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting structured cabling systems and low-voltage security infrastructure, including CCTV, access control, and alarm systems. If you thrive in dynamic environments and take pride in delivering clean, reliable, and standards-compliant installations, we want to hear from you.

This position reports directly to the Division Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities

Work shall include but not necessarily be bound by the following depending on workload, training, and experience:

Project Work
  • Provide high level workmanship and customer service.
  • Install and terminate current structured cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a).
  • Install and terminate single and multimode fiber optic cabling.
  • Install network equipment, racks, cabinets, and cable tray.
  • Read and understand blueprints.
  • Follow industry standards and specifications as well as project related specifications.
  • Use testing equipment (Fluke DSX-5000 or equal) for structured cabling.
  • Label cables and panels as per defined standards and specifications.
  • Complete as-builts for projects.
  • Communication room build out.
Other
  • Follow Sasco’s safety standards including routine Field Level Hazard Assessments and Site Inspections, pre-use PPE inspections.
  • Conduct and participate in weekly Toolbox Talks.
  • Complete monthly vehicle inspections.
  • Maintain certifications such as First Aid, WHMIS, FIT tests, Fall Protection and Asbestos Awareness.
  • Mentor junior staff on site with you.

Skill Requirements
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times with fellow employees, customers, and suppliers.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Efficient using O365 products.
  • Familiar with using the Fluke DSX 5000 or equal.
  • Self-motivated and a has “let’s make it happen” attitude.
  • Eager to learn new skills and new best practices.
  • Punctual and ready to work.
  • Must be willing to work off hours if required including weekends.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma.
  • Minimum 5 years experience performing structured cabling.
  • Class 5 driver’s license in good standing with the Province of BC.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Will be considered an asset:

Journeyman Red Seal Electrician.

Certification in Belden, CommScope and Panduit.

Certification in scissor lift operation and confined spaces.

Commercial construction experience.

Security and audiovisual experience.

Data center and working with provincial health experience.

Experience with outside plant fiber.
