Job description
OVERVIEW

The Stationary Engineer Class 2 is responsible for operating and maintaining oil/gas fired boilers & auxiliary equipment, deaerator, water softeners, weak acid cations, steam distribution system, condensate return system, air compressors and air distribution system, facility HVAC systems, fire protection systems, chilled water systems, lake water pumps, wastewater systems, and/or other related equipment found in an industrial powerhouse. This position works a Continental shift with rotating 12-hour day and night assignments covering all days of the week.

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operate designated equipment in accordance with all applicable procedures, policies, and regulations.
  • Carry out routine Steam Power Plant duties such as: start, operate, maintain and monitor operation of Steam Turbines, High Pressure Boilers, industrial HVAC equipment, Air Compressors, and associated auxiliaries according to established procedures and as per TSSA authorization.
  • Assist the Powerhouse Shift Operating Engineer on Power Plant startups and shutdowns as scheduled.
  • Provide shift relief as required in accordance with Operating Engineers Regulations 219-01.
  • Comply with all Occupational Health and Safety legislation, guidelines, standards, policies, procedures and practices.
  • Provide isolation, lockouts, clearances and safe work permits on nominated equipment. Ensure all guards and safety lock-outs are in place and associated records and documentation attended.
  • Ensure that all powerhouse activities are carried out in accordance with environmental legislation requirements.
  • Maintain, monitor and conduct routine tests on fire protection systems and associated equipment. Coordinate work of designated fire protection contractor ensuring continuous and reliable plant protection.
  • Participate with maintenance planning and repair of equipment. Carry out preventative maintenance tasks to insure all systems are fully functional at all time.
  • Ensure daily documentation and accurate records are maintained.
  • Coordinate and schedule outside contractors work in line with safety, quality and plant production rules.
  • A valid Ontario Second Class Operating Engineer Certificate is required.
  • The job is within a heavy industrial environment, and you may be required to work within various areas of the facility. Depending on the area you work in, the environmental conditions may be hot, cold, dirty, dusty, wet or noisy.
  • Safety procedures and guidelines must be adhered to at all times. This includes wearing personal protective equipment, such as a hard hats, eye protection, hearing protection and safety shoes at all times during a work
  • Punctuality and attendance are extremely important to the success of the operations in general as well as contributing to an overall positive team environment. You may be required to work at different times of day and at weekends. The position requires you to work overtime as needed.
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good mechanical aptitude, Proficient computer skills with standard Microsoft software (Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • The ability to quickly respond to dynamic, evolving circumstances.
  • Capable of studying and interpreting mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and automation system blueprints and maintenance manuals.
  • Must have a general knowledge of typical mechanical and electrical working practices and a proven ability to work with the aim of completing tasks efficiently and safely.
