Job description
Overview

At Loblaw Digital, we know that our customers expect the best from us. Whether that means building the best, most innovative online shopping experience, or designing an app that will impact the lives of people across the country, we\'re up for the challenge. From our office in Downtown Toronto, we\'ve created leading eCommerce experiences in the online grocery shopping, beauty, pharmacy, and apparel spaces, and we\'re only just getting started.

Staff iOS Developer to drive product excellence and architectural cohesion across a suite of mission-critical customer-facing mobile experiences. This role is ideal for a technical leader who thrives in complex ecosystems and can balance platform-level vision with hands-on impact. You will be a trusted partner across engineering, product, design, and platform domains, helping shape both near-term delivery and long-term technical direction.

What You'll Do
  • Own the technical strategy and implementation for high-impact areas of the iOS app, including but not limited to Homepage, PDP (Product Detail Page), Browse, and shared Core App infrastructure.
  • Define and evolve platform architecture, ensuring consistency, modularity, and reusability across teams and surfaces.
  • Champion and guide the adoption of Server-Driven UI (SDUI) patterns, including performance tuning, dynamic page loading strategies, and headless component rendering.
  • Lead cross-cutting initiatives that impact multiple surfaces, such as shared navigation, analytics instrumentation (Snowplow, OTEL), deep linking, and personalization frameworks.
  • Mentor and support developers across squads, raising the bar for code quality, debugging practices, and technical decision-making.
  • Drive technical alignment across mobile and platform teams, particularly in initiatives that require integration with BFF services, CMS configurations, and component libraries.
  • Ensure app performance and scalability goals are met, including cold-start optimization, component hydration, and A / B testing support at scale.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to translate roadmap objectives into scalable engineering solutions, balancing delivery speed with long-term maintainability.
  • Contribute to the evolution of developer tooling, CI / CD pipelines, and monitoring standards that support sustainable engineering velocity.
Qualifications
  • 8+ years of professional iOS development experience with a strong grasp of Swift, UIKit, and architectural patterns such as MVVM, VIPER, or Clean Architecture.
  • Deep experience building and maintaining large-scale modular apps and shared component systems.
  • Proven track record of leading cross-team initiatives or platform modernization efforts (e.g., SDUI, core navigation, design systems).
  • Fluency in performance instrumentation and debugging tools (e.g., Instruments, Firebase Performance, Crashlytics).
  • Experience implementing or evolving dynamic and server-driven UI systems, including content prefetching, lazy loading, and experimentation frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of BFF integrations, analytics pipelines, and personalization frameworks and how they interact with the app lifecycle.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to influence without authority across product, design, and engineering.
  • Experience guiding and mentoring senior developers and shaping engineering culture and practices.
  • Familiarity with observability platforms (e.g., Snowplow, OTEL) and how to apply them to user experience metrics like Perfect Experience (PE) tracking.
  • Bonus: Experience working in retail, e-commerce, or multi-surface platform environments.
