Summary:

Rayleigh Solar Tech is searching for a Staff Engineer - Mechanical to fill a pivotal role in scaling the next generation of perovskite solar modules. In this role, you'll push Rayleigh's manufacturing and mechanical design capabilities to the next level, overseeing an engineering team and taking ownership of critical scale-up tasks.

What you'll do
Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the engineering team through and beyond Rayleigh's scale-up from lab to manufacturing.
  • Provide input on top-level mechanical decisions related to facilities, equipment, testing, and product design.
  • Design and review designs for internal engineering projects such as modifications to production equipment or custom jigs and fixtures.
  • Take the lead in validating, procuring, and commissioning production and lab equipment, as well as developing standard operating procedures for this equipment.
  • Communicate with suppliers, with the possibility of travel.
  • Prepare progress reports and present them at all-team meetings or directly to shareholders.
  • Represent the engineering team's needs and perspective in discussions about Rayleigh's long-term goals and direction.
  • Build and maintain a deep understanding of all of Rayleigh's processes and be willing and able to fill in on a selection of processes if needed.
What you'll need
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar, higher degrees a plus but are not required.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer preferred, PEng eligibility required.
  • 8+ years experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably PV, semiconductor, thin-film display, or printed electronics industries.
  • Expert-level mechanical designer, including but not limited to: designing in parametric CAD, using GD&T, creating drawing packages, setting and validating design requirements, anticipating potential manufacturing, assembly, usage, maintenance, and end-of-life issues, using FEA tools, iterating existing designs, and setting scope and timelines for designs.
  • Understanding of and experience with electrical engineering principles, with an emphasis on power transmission, safety topics such as creep and clearance, breakdown voltages, and safety regulations, and ability to anticipate and design for interactions between mechanical and electrical components.
  • First-hand contributions to a manufacturing scale-up process, including commissioning a manufacturing facility.
  • Experience designing to standards and familiarity with product life cycle.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks (or similar), AutoCAD (or similar), Excel, Microsoft Suite.
  • Extensive experience in lab, workshop, and production floor environments, with a proven track record of safety and organization.
  • Understanding of semiconductor physics, thin-film solar devices, and photovoltaic devices in general is a big plus.
