Job summary

A pediatric health system in Ottawa is seeking a qualified ultrasound technologist experienced in cardiac procedures. Responsibilities include performing ultrasound studies and consulting with cardiologists. Essential qualifications include ARDMS registration and two years of clinical experience. Candidates must be bilingual in French and English and fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Qualifications

  • Police Record Check (PRC) – Essential.
  • Current ARDMS registration – Essential.
  • Active member of CSDMS – Essential.
  • Current BCLS registration – Preferred.
  • Two years of clinical experience in scanning, preferably Pediatric Echocardiography – Essential.
  • Fetal Echo experience – Preferred.
  • Detailed knowledge of normal cardiovascular anatomy and physiology and knowledge of congenital cardiac defects – Essential.
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team – Essential.
  • Strong math, communication and problem-solving skills – Essential.
  • Computer literacy and data entry skills – Essential.
  • Bilingual (French / English) – Essential.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cardiac ultrasound studies including portable studies off-unit.
  • Operate complex ultrasound equipment with understanding of physical principles.
  • Consult with referring Cardiologists regarding ultrasound procedures.
  • Assess patients for procedures and continually monitor their condition.
  • Obtain images, recognize abnormalities and correlate with clinical data.
  • Perform various Doppler flow studies and calculate diagnostic information.
  • Create a 3-dimensional model from 2-dimensional image information.
  • Provide written sonographer preliminary technical impressions within the PACs system.
  • Assist and teach technical skills to students and sonographers.
  • Engage in professional development in ultrasound and pediatric cardiology.

Responsibilities
  • Perform cardiac ultrasound studies including portable studies off-unit
  • Operate complex ultrasound equipment with an understanding of the physical principles and bio-effects
  • Consult with referring Cardiologists regarding the appropriate ultrasound procedure
  • Assess and prepare patients for procedures; continuously assessing their condition throughout the procedure
  • Obtain images and recognize abnormalities and correlate information with clinical data
  • Perform 2-dimensional, m-mode, color and spectral Doppler flow studies and calculate diagnostic information
  • Collate 2-dimensional image information, create a 3-dimensional model and provide this to a cardiologist
  • Provide written sonographer preliminary technical impressions within the PACs system
  • Assist, supervise and teach technical skills to students in training and sonographers
  • Input study information into the digital echo system
  • Engage in professional development and stay up-to-date in ultrasound and pediatric cardiology
  • Establish and maintain good working relations with health care team, patients and families

Timeline may be extended or shortened based on operational needs.
