Job description

This position offers a full-time training opportunity, including both theoretical and practical components, to prepare staff for work in a specific Island Health specialty department. Upon successful completion, staff will be placed into a regular full-time rotation within the specialized department.

Please note: There is an 18-month return of service requirement as a regular/permanent employee within the Island Health specialty department for which they have been trained. Staff may transfer between Island Health departments within that specialty. The post-basic training requires full-time attendance. For more information, visit the Professional Practice Website:

Reports to the Nurse Manager, Department Head, or designate. The nurse plans and provides direct care to patients/residents in hospital or community settings, following the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies, and BCCNM Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience

Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN, with recent medical and/or surgical experience. Upon completing the specialty training, staff will be transitioned into a permanent position within the department.

Work hours, including days off and work areas, may be adjusted based on operational needs, collective agreement, and applicable laws.
