Job Description
The Skilled Labourer will be responsible to perform a variety of onsite construction tasks in an effort to assist with project completion, on time and within budget. The Skilled Laborer will bring expertise in construction techniques, tools, and materials to ensure the efficient and high‑quality completion of tasks. Their ability to perform specialized tasks and collaborate effectively with other tradespeople will be essential in maintaining the project's timeline and quality standards.
As a Labourer your role is to oversee the functions noted below. A summary of responsibilities within each function is also outlined.
Safety
- Ensure all safety requirements are followed and met, striving for zero safety incidents.
- Abide by the Stolk Construction H&S Manual, as well as the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Construction Projects.
- Report any jobsite injury and/or illness in an immediate manner to the appropriate Supervisor and/or Director of Operations.
Knowledge of Work and Ability
- Understand your role and responsibilities as they relate to a specific project.
- Advise General Foreman / Supervisor onsite of any tasks you are being asked to perform that you are untrained in.
- Take advantage of opportunities to learn from those onsite.
- Execute skilled tasks such as steel stud framing, drywall, acoustic tile ceiling, demolition, concrete finishing, carpentry, or other specialized activities, displaying a high level of proficiency and attention to detail.
- Coordinate the delivery, storage, and utilization of construction materials, ensuring proper inventory management and minimizing waste.
- Operate a wide range of construction equipment and power tools with precision and adherence to safety protocols.
- Assist in layout and measurement activities, ensuring accurate placement of structures, fixtures, and materials according to project plans.
- Assist in various project‑related activities such as site cleanup, equipment maintenance, and general support as needed.
Quality
- Ensure the proper level of quality is maintained while also attaining the outlined timelines of the task.
- Communicate material and equipment needs to the General Foremen / Supervisor in a proactive manner.
- Identify and address issues that may arise during construction, proposing solutions and working collaboratively to overcome.
- Track and properly manage all company tools and equipment assigned to you.
- Follow instruction in an effort to complete tasks correctly the first time.
- Be open minded to coaching and development opportunities.
- Submit accurately and completely paperwork in a timely manner.
Communication
- Provide guidance and training to less experienced laborers, promoting skill development and ensuring work is performed to high standards.
- Detailed, on‑going, timely communications with General Foreman / Supervisor.
Qualifications
- Technical or vocational training in a relevant field is a plus.
- 3+ years of successful labourer experience within the construction industry.
- High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency.
- Ability to work well individually and as part of a team.
- Proven experience as a skilled laborer in construction, with expertise in areas such as carpentry, masonry, concrete work, or similar trades.
- Strong understanding of construction techniques, materials, and tools.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Proficiency in operating a variety of construction equipment and power tools.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing project requirements.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high‑quality work.
- Solid understanding of safety procedures and regulations in a construction setting.
- Basic leadership skills and the ability to direct a lean team.
