We are currently seeking an experienced Signalman to support the installation, construction, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of railway signal and communications systems across Easern Canada. This is a field-based role for skilled professionals who take pride in safety, teamwork, and technical excellence.

What You’ll Do

As a Signalman, you will work as part of a dedicated signals crew performing technical and labour tasks, including:

  • Install, wire, test, and troubleshoot railway signal equipment such as signal heads, masts, switch machines, track circuits, and crossing warning systems
  • Perform field cabling, conduit installation, grounding, cable pulling, and terminations
  • Read and execute work from signal plans, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical specifications
  • Conduct programmed maintenance including switch inspections, battery checks, and track circuit testing
  • Perform civil and labour duties such as trenching, shoveling, grading, and equipment mounting
  • Clear railway crossings of brush, snow, and debris using handheld tools and equipment
  • Safely operate handheld tools and small equipment (generators, drills, cutters, tampers, etc.)
  • Load and unload tools, materials, and signal equipment
  • Complete test records, field reports, and documentation accurately and on time
  • Occasionally operate company vehicles
  • Follow all company, client, and industry safety policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
What You Bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2–3 years of full-time railway industry experience, preferably in Signals & Communications
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical theory, low-voltage wiring, track circuits, and signal logic
  • Ability to read and interpret signal plans, wiring diagrams, and technical instructions
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Professional, respectful attitude with strong work ethic and safety awareness
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted
  • Repetitive bending, standing, and walking long distances on uneven terrain
  • Regular outdoor work in all weather conditions (heat, rain, snow, cold)
  • Exposure to loud noise, dust, and hazardous materials (oil, lubricants, diesel, creosote)
  • Willingness to travel and work out of town, including overnight stays
  • Availability to work evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime as operationally required
