POSITION FUNCTION

Perform a variety of sign fabrication functions for the City of Victoria.

KEY DUTIES

Lay out and produce lettering and graphic images for signs, vehicle markings, anti-graffiti wraps, stencils, and decals using computerized sign making equipment; transfer to different substrates such as vinyl banner, glass, metals, plastics, or vinyl sheeting to produce finished signs. Follow the Uniform Traffic Control Manual guidelines in the layout and production of regulatory, warning guide and temporary construction signs. Apply fleet markings or wraps on City vehicles or property, install signs inside/outside of City buildings, and apply vinyl glass frosting on City buildings.

Install and repair signs such as regulatory, street name, hazard and traffic; mix and place concrete for installation of sign posts as required; operate equipment such as hammer drill, post straightener, coring machine and various hand tools.

Replace overhead signs by use of aerial lift truck as assigned.

Perform related duties where qualified.

INDEPENDENCE

Work is performed according to seasonal programs or assigned by supervisor.

Work is reviewed upon completion.

Problems with placement of signs or markings are referred to supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Effort:

Lift and move medium weight equipment and materials. (often)

Work in awkward position at a drafting table while weeding vinyl lettering, and assembling sign materials. (rare)

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Organize and prioritize work.

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:

High School Graduation.

IMSA Level 1 Certificate. (16 hours)

Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence.

Experience:

1 year of related experience.

or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER:

May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.
