Job description

As an Engineer/Technologist, Shipbuilding, you will provide technical oversight and support throughout the design, construction, testing/commissioning, and delivery of multiple classes of Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Coast Guard vessels. This oversight will be achieved through practical job knowledge typically obtained via advanced education and work experience in ship design and construction.

Qualifications
  • Engineering or Technologist degree
  • Minimum of 1 year shipbuilding/ship design experience or related heavy manufacturing experience
  • Applied experience with hull structure and/or steel outfitting
  • Understanding of shipbuilding production, planning, material requirements, facility/resource capacity
  • Ability to interpret shipbuilding production drawings, bill of materials, and 3D models
  • Experience with AutoCAD for sketches and engineering drawings
  • Stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage regularly with Production and Planning teams to meet business needs
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders and adaptable to organizational changes and ongoing programs
Responsibilities

The Engineer/Technologist reviews subcontractor calculations, models, reports, and technical specifications to ensure structural requirements from the customer, Classification Society, and shipyard are met. They will also develop solutions to resolve technical issues encountered during construction.
