Overview

Shift Mechanic (Overnight) is part of the Engineering Team and is responsible for efficiently maintaining hotel operations to ensure safety, security, conservation, and compliance at high standards. The shift mechanic maintains guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas in good repair by performing tasks across carpentry, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, painting, wall coverings, and masonry to ensure an attractive and well-maintained hotel. This position supports the overnight shift from Midnight to 8:00 AM.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas for items to repair, touch up, or replace
  • Repair or replace items such as light bulbs, lamps, switches, outlets, faucets, toilets, hardware, filters, paint, furniture, wall coverings, caulking, grouting, or other miscellaneous items
  • Assist other department team members in the systematic application of preventive maintenance, including painting when required
  • Document repairs made and areas needing further attention
  • Maintain inventory of supplies needed to perform the job
  • Report major repairs and items that cannot be repaired to the dispatcher for further action and, if necessary, place a room out of order
  • May be required to perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management
Qualifications
  • Must have basic experience in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical
  • Graduation from a vocational school with emphasis on building operation or general maintenance
  • Current working knowledge of general maintenance and engineering work
  • Experience in the maintenance department of a large hotel, hospital, ship, and/or restaurant complex is an asset
  • Strong work ethic
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Ability to work without close supervision and within established timeframes
