You’ll have the opportunity to put your expertise to work, guiding field staff and project teams, shaping projects, influencing decisions, and delivering exceptional environmental solutions across Alberta. Your Impact
  • Conduct wetland surveys, assessments, and monitoring across Alberta, applying your technical expertise to deliver accurate and reliable results.
  • Provide technical wetlands support to project teams, ensuring fieldwork and reporting meet client and regulatory requirements.
  • Offer vegetation ecological expertise to field staff and project management teams, supporting project planning and execution.
  • Conduct vegetation inventories, soil assessments, and rare plant surveys, contributing to comprehensive ecological understanding of project sites.
  • Plan surveys effectively, coordinating resources, schedules, and field logistics.
  • Prepare permit closure reports and other regulatory documentation, ensuring compliance and project success.
  • Manage tasks and projects according to approved scopes of work and schedules, demonstrating strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Liaise with on-site client representatives and contractors, fostering professional relationships and clear communication.
  • Provide independent technical review for proposals and project deliverables, ensuring accuracy, quality, and alignment with best practices.
  • Apply environmental best management practices and advise clients and project teams accordingly, supporting sustainable project outcomes.
  • Collaborate across project and corporate teams, sharing knowledge and contributing to a cohesive, high-performing work environment.
Your Skills & Experience
  • Education: Sc. or M.Sc. in biology, ecology, soil science, botany, or a related field.
  • Professional Designation: Professional Biologist (P. Biol.) with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists or Professional Agrologist (P.Ag.) in Alberta.
  • Hold an Authenticating Wetlands Professional (AWP) designation with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists.
  • Wetlands Expertise: Proven experience with wetland delineation and classification, along with familiarity with Alberta’s wetland regulatory frameworks.
  • Technical Experience: Skilled in preparing Wetlands Assessment and Impact Forms, Wetlands Assessment and Impact Reports, and utilizing the Wetland Rapid Evaluation Tool.
  • Relevant Experience: Ideally 3 or more years of experience conducting a broad range of wetlands-focused work in both pre-construction and construction settings.
  • Ecological Skills: Strong plant identification skills for wetland, prairie grassland, and upland communities in boreal landscapes. Proficient in conducting vegetation inventories and assessments across grassland, boreal, and upland regions. Experienced in soil classification for ecological assessments.
  • Professional Competencies: Strong technical writing, reporting, communication, and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively while maintaining strong interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-Solving & Independence: Capable of working independently with minimal supervision and applying effective problem-solving skills.
  • Organizational Skills: Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Other Requirements: Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.

Work Schedule & Flexibility

This position can be based anywhere in Alberta, reporting to either our Calgary or Edmonton Triton office. You’ll have a flexible work schedule, whether that means collaborating on-site with colleagues in a hybrid setup or working remotely if you live further away and not close to the specific hiring locations. We’re also happy to explore fully remote arrangements for candidates outside our main office locations.
