Senior Underwriter in our Cyber, Tech and FinTech team based in Toronto.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Underwriter to join our Tech, Cyber and Fintech (TCF) team based in Toronto.

The opportunity

As an Underwriter or Senior Underwriter in our Cyber, Tech and FinTech team based in Toronto, you will work closely with the AVP of Cyber and a dynamic team to help implement underwriting strategies, improve products, and build strong broker relationships across Canada. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to our innovative approach on true specialty products and support our global presence in Cyber and Technology, within an environment that supports and provides exceptional development opportunities that aims to maximise your potential. What you’ll be doing
  • Work with AVP Cyber, wider team, actuarial, and other parts of the business to implement the underwriting strategy on new and renewal business
  • Support AVP Cyber on the performance of the portfolio and identify opportunities for growth and product improvements, including value added services
  • Provide leadership and coaching, as appropriate, for junior underwriters to help with their development and ensure that their roles and responsibilities are delivered
  • Attend regular broker and client meetings, working with distribution and broker channel leadership groups, in order to develop strong relationships with existing and new brokers
  • Apply appropriate underwriting practices including authority and guidelines control
  • Apply appropriate risk management practices including aggregations and guideline controls and any measures required to limit Markel’s exposure
What we’re looking for
  • At least 5 years of Cyber, Tech E&O or Fintech insurance experience preferred
  • A high level of Cyber and/or E&O product and technical proficiency
  • Able to demonstrate experience and success in a customer service role with a business development focus and have a proven track record of delivery against new business and portfolio growth targets
  • Excellent research, detail orientation and creative problem‑solving skills
  • Show a high level of competence in the use of data to robustly performance manage
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong team player, able to contribute in a fast‑paced, dynamic, and collaborative environment, who has developed junior team members
  • Be self‑starting and success‑oriented individuals and have a desire to build a market leading business
  • Up to 25% travel (when appropriate)
  • Bilingual preferred
