Job description

Egg Farmers of Canada (EFC) is seeking a Senior Trade and Policy Advisor to join the Corporate and Public Affairs team in a fast‑paced, challenging, and exciting work environment. Reporting to the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, the Senior Trade and Policy Advisor is responsible for providing technical analysis on international trade negotiations and agreements, as well as monitoring evolving global dynamics that impact the interests of the Canadian egg farming industry. This role is well suited for an analytical thinker and strong communicator who excels at relationship building, managing policy files, information dissemination and problem solving.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Track and monitor national and international trade environments, trends and shifting dynamics, including the World Trade Organization, Free Trade Agreements and other bilateral agreements
  • Provide technical analysis on the impact of trade negotiations, exploratory talks, review processes, trade disputes and federal policies on the Canadian egg farming sector
  • Identify opportunities and make recommendations on EFC’s trade policy and strategic objectives to the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer
  • Undertake advocacy efforts to represent the interests of Canadian egg farmers federally and globally within the context of trade diversification and upholding a rules‑based trading system
  • Draft and present reports, briefing packages, backgrounders, documents, presentations and other communications material that disseminate relevant information to core stakeholders
  • Participate in consultations, working groups and committees to promote strategic outcomes that support the interests of Canadian egg farmers
  • Develop relationships with senior officials, bureaucrats and stakeholders, and maintain a network of individuals and organizations in support of information gathering and collaboration
  • Act as a subject matter expert for EFC, egg boards and other stakeholders regarding the interpretation and impact of trade matters
  • Support other advocacy, government relations, risk management and policy files as required
  • Conduct other analysis and research as needed
Qualifications and Skills
  • Knowledge of the development, negotiation and implementation process of international trade agreements
  • Ability to coordinate the collection, analysis and dissemination of information on technical analysis initiatives
  • Experience in applying critical thinking to identify problems and determine optimal course of action to pursue
  • An excellent writer, a persuasive communicator and a confident presenter
  • Excels at building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Tact and diplomacy
Education and Experience
  • 7-8 years of experience in a progressive and relevant position
  • An undergraduate degree with a concentration in international business, trade policy, economics or business. A master’s degree is an asset.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset
Working Conditions

  • Domestic and international travel to attend external meetings, conferences and events
