Compensation: $21.76 / hour

Description

The Outreach Department provides recreational based respite programming for individuals living with their families in the community. Outreach services young children, teenagers and adults. The focus of Outreach is to provide programming which enhances life and social skills and community inclusion. Programs are provided within Reena and larger community settings. Additionally, Outreach strives to incorporate Jewish philosophies within its programming.

The Senior Recreational Staff is responsible for creating and implementing practical programming that fosters independence and maximizes individual potential. They are also accountable for overseeing the day-to-day functioning of the Recreational Staff team and the programming plan.

Role Type: Temporary Contract – Part-Time

Term: January 4, 2026, to March 2, 2026

Schedule:

  • Sunday: 11:00 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Monday: 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM
  • Tuesday: 4:30 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Wednesday: 5:00 PM – 8:30 PM
  • Thursday: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM

(Hours may vary depending on evening program needs.)

Job Responsibilities
  • Attend and lead all evening, weekend and camp programs
  • Delegates daily tasks and assigns caseloads for the day
  • Assists in facilitating orientation of the work environment for Recreational Staff
  • Senior Recreational Worker must have G drivers License
  • Provides guidance and directions to Recreational Staff regularly based on experience and knowledge
  • Contributes oversight to the Supervisor about the performance of Recreational Staff
  • Communicates concerns and issues with supervisors as they arise
  • Participates in regular staff meetings
  • Ensures all the incidents are reported and relevant documentation is completed in a timely manner.
  • Liaises with families and the supervisor on an ongoing basis
  • Monitors quality of support to individuals; collaboratively works with families
  • Ensures the staff develop/demonstrate an awareness of the Judaic culture while respecting individual spiritual choice
  • Participates in the planning of recreational activities to provide individuals with a social and skill-based experience
  • Ensuring that individuals' daily living skills are met.
  • Responsible for medication as per Reena’s policies and procedures
  • Ensures health and safety program requirements are followed based on applicable legislation and reports all injuries to the appropriate department/ministry
  • Implements programs within a designated budget
  • Ensure money is returned with an appropriate receipt (ensure all purchases are Kosher).
  • Assists to ensure all emergency binders are up to date with pertinent information (face sheets, face cards etc.)
  • Assists to ensure that all binders are emptied at the end of each session and all documentation is either filed away or shredded
  • Provides feedback regarding volunteer performance and the completion of volunteer evaluations as needed
  • Completes reports/forms in a timely, concise and coherent manner
  • Occasionally attends job fairs or information fairs as per the Supervisors request
  • Assists Supervisor to schedule Recreational Staff
  • Assist Supervisor in creating all program schedules
  • Demonstrates professional conduct and accountability at all times.
  • Conducts self in a professional manner at all times, which reflects positively on the Agency
  • Maintains confidentiality of individual, staff and agency information at all times
  • Organizes and plans own areas of responsibilities; independently setting work and task priorities
  • Conducts oneself in accordance with all of Reena’s policies and procedures
  • Complies with the legislative, regulatory and internal responsibilities as set forth in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, including health & safety, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (‘WHMIS’), workplace violence, Material Safety Data Sheets (‘MSDS’).
  • Uses or wears Personal Protective Equipment (‘PPE’) equipment, protective devices or clothing, as required; reports the absence of, or defect in, any equipment or protective device which may result in harm or danger in the workplace.
  • Provides support to individuals in all areas of medical needs by arranging and attending medical appointments, and scheduling follow up appointments, as needed.
  • Provides support and education to individuals in all areas of health needs which includes but is not limited to; nutrition and diet, physical activities, personal hygiene, mobility.
  • Responds appropriately to medical crises by accessing EMS and notifying the on call emergency system.
  • Pre-empts behavioural crises by recognizing the individual’s escalation continuum and responding accordingly; knowledge and use of individuals’ behavioural support plan.
  • Provides information and input while consulting with any specialized health-care practitioner i.e. behaviour therapist, occupational therapist, social worker, nutritionist
  • Reports all injuries and near misses immediately to the appropriate Direct Support Supervisor/Manager, designate or On-Call Direct Support Supervisor/Manager.
  • Ensures an awareness of personal safety measures for self, co-workers and others.
  • Complies with all applicable regulations and changes to the following that include but are not limited to; Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, Quality Assurance Measures Act, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Recognizes workplace practices and conventions that diverge from espoused professional ethics of the workplace and questions and challenges the discrepancies, occasionally at considerable risk to personal interests in the workplace.
  • Promotes dialogue on relevance of ethics and values to daily issues and relevance of daily issues to the public good.
Qualifications
  • Enrolled in a College or University in Social Services or similar
  • 1-2 years’ experience working in recreation field
  • 1-2 years’s exposure to individuals with a developmental disability
  • Leadership skills/experience preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail
  • Demonstrated leadership skills inclusive of supervision the team of staff
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities successfully.
  • Produces good results when working with others by displaying tact, cooperation, sensitivity and respect for the opinions and situations of others and their culture.
  • Create and implement the curriculum for job coach training, employer awareness and training
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the employment climate and how to present information to the employer, staff and consumers in a professional and courteous manner
  • Represents Reena in the best light at all times
