Overview

Reporting to the Head of Human Resources Stifel Canada, the Senior Payroll & Benefits Specialist will lead the payroll and benefits function and assist in the full range of human resources. The role is focused on designing and building structures, programs and systems that are scalable to support growth. The ideal candidate will have experience with Dayforce (Ceridian) and a strong understanding of general ledger (GL) accounting. This role ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, benefits administration, and reconciliation of payroll-related financial data.

What You'll Be Doing

Reporting to the Head of Human Resources Stifel Canada, the Senior Payroll & Benefits Specialist will lead the payroll and benefits function and assist in the full range of human resources. This role plays an integral part in designing and building structures, programs and systems that are scalable to support our growth. The ideal candidate will have experience using Dayforce (Ceridian) and a strong understanding of general ledger (GL) accounting. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, benefits administration, and reconciliation of payroll-related financial data.

Stifel has a strong position in the Canadian market with international reach and ongoing growth. The role offers hands-on experience focused on the financial markets. In Canada, we are organized into industry teams focused on sectors including Technology, Consumer, Diversified Industries, Life Sciences and Metals & Mining. This position is based in Toronto and currently operates on a hybrid model (3 days in the office, 2 days remote). Flexibility to start earlier or end later as business needs require.

What We're Looking For

The Senior Payroll & Benefits Specialist will be responsible for the following tasks:

Payroll & Benefits
  • Lead the full cycle of semi-monthly payroll for multiple provinces including Quebec using Dayforce (Ceridian); ensure timely, consistent and accurate payroll
  • Maintain payroll records (new hires, terminations, ROEs, salary changes, etc.)
  • Own payroll year-end processes including T4s, RL-1, EHT and payroll reconciliations
  • Ensure payroll compliance with federal and provincial tax regulations; support Finance and Auditors with payroll requests and reconciliations
  • Complete payroll & benefits-related journal entries in Oracle monthly
  • Assist with payroll-related account reconciliations, including managing payable matters with confidentiality
  • Act as point of contact for employees and managers on payroll and benefit issues
  • Assist with all employee benefits administration including enrollments, terminations, profile changes, and claims
  • Process monthly billings related to HR
Human Resources
  • Manage and administer the full HRIS system using Dayforce (Ceridian)
  • Develop custom reports for management and staff
  • Manage quarterly vacation audit process
  • Assist with ad-hoc reporting and HR projects
  • Provide day-to-day assistance to the Head of Human Resources as required
What You'll Bring
  • Deep knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, tax remittances, and year-end reporting obligations
  • Experience in accounting / reconciliations of payroll liabilities accounts and knowledge of Payroll GL
  • Knowledge of HR processes and best practices
  • Excellent communication skills; effective in writing, telephone, and in-person interactions
  • Very organized and detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and shift priorities
  • Collaborative and proactive; creative thinking and problem solving
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with sensitive information
  • Fluent in English; French is an asset but not required
Education & Experience
  • 3-7 years of progressive payroll processing & benefits administration
  • Minimum : College or University degree / diploma with a focus in HR, Business or Accounting (preferred)
  • Professional certification : Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certificate required
Systems & Technology

Strong in Microsoft Office Suite – Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.
