Senior Mechanical Equipment Engineer (Operations & Maintenance)

Candu Energy Inc. is looking to hire a Senior Mechanical Equipment Engineer (Operations & Maintenance). This position requires experienced individuals who are self‑starters capable of working independently. The individuals will work in a fast‑paced team environment performing and leading engineering services for Nuclear Power Plants within a matrix organization.

Your role within the team:
  • Develop and implement Plant Outage Plans, Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Procedures, Systematic Assessment of Maintenance, and FMEA procedures and techniques and proactively work out and implement plant specific methodologies to assess equipment condition monitoring, single point vulnerability, predictive and preventive maintenance strategies to mitigate the long and short term risks to maintain plant needs to enhance plant operating life, operational performance, reliability and safety of systems, structures, and components.
  • Perform technical review of process flow sheets, detail drawings, equipment arrangement/layouts as well as sizing and selection of mechanical components related to nuclear steam plants, with specific focus on ensuring the maintenance‑based design features and ease of plant operation and equipment maintenance requirements are fully met.
  • Interact with peers and other related disciplines including equipment engineering and provide maintenance‑based design related O&M input for the preparation of deliverables including specifications, component specification sheets, plant layout, inspection and test procedures, commissioning plans and registration design submissions for components and mechanical systems.
  • Coordinate on both large scale new and ongoing nuclear power plants of considerable technical and commercial complexity and provide technical advice and guidance for the overall O&M recommendations for upkeep, economic and reliable operation of critical equipment.
  • Monitoring and reporting project progress and communicating with clients.
  • Supporting manufacturing, assembly, testing and commissioning tasks at site.
  • Review design reports, analysis reports, calculations, documents and drawings in support of design verification.
  • Conduct technical, conceptual and detailed meetings with peers, clients and suppliers, write and follow up action plans and prepare detailed O & M reports.

The ideal candidate:
  • Engineering degree from an accredited university in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, qualified to seal engineering documents.
  • A proven experience in a senior engineer role in plant O&M, preferably in the Candu nuclear power plants, oil refineries, petrochemical or any other process plants excluding metal fabrication and automotive assembly, covering major system and critical equipment, mechanical design and operation and maintenance of industrial machines, and equipment engineering knowledge of pumps, fans, motors, valves, heat exchanges, steam generators, pressure vessels, tanks, piping, HVAC systems, steam turbines, condensers, and associated mechanical components, as applicable to nuclear plants.
  • A strong and well recognized team player with an understanding and proven experience of inter‑discipline coordination and interface with Process System, Electrical / I&C, Civil/Structural, Safety & Reliability, and Piping Engineers.
  • Solid understanding of process systems, equipment, operation and maintenance procedures, materials, material selection and fundamentals of machine component design. Solid understanding and experience in equipment sizing, selection, and troubleshooting issues.
  • A working knowledge of/ and established experience using nuclear pressure boundary codes and standards is an asset.
  • Knowledge of/ and proven experience in Plant Operation and Maintenance, Failure Modes Effects Analysis, critical equipment and system aging process and degradation mechanism and the use of application of proven mitigation methodologies to enhance the equipment life, operational performance, and reliability measures with specific focus on plant, environment and personnel safety.
