Job Description
Senior Manager, Strategy & Business Performance will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing transformation and strategic projects within Transaction Banking (TB), with a specific focus on business management, business strategy execution and operating plans of the TB strategy.
The role will enable Transaction Banking’s business strategy, by defining and executing management information for Trade Finance Solutions, developing content for the TB senior leadership team, planning and coordinating events, and implementing process improvement initiatives. The primary focus of this role will be supporting Trade Finance Solutions to deliver on strategy and business performance initiatives by leveraging business agility and advancing new ways of working, as required. You will be supporting business activities including management-level reporting, OKR tracking and development, communication, continuous improvement, and ad hoc requests as required.
This role will partner closely with key stakeholders across Transaction Banking and Commercial Banking, to deliver high priority business management initiatives, aligned to Transaction Banking strategy.
What will you do?
- Strategy Planning and Development
- Works closely with the Employee Performance, Business Enablement and Optimization, and Transformation teams across TB, as well as CB partners and Enterprise teams (Finance, Business Performance, Strategy, Product) to support key projects and in alignment with partner / organizational strategies (RBC, Commercial Banking) with a primary focus on Trade Finance Solutions
- Maintains a strategic, agile, and transformation mindset with strong project management skills
- Monitors the productivity and performance of the business and projects, manages deadlines and completion of project goals, and providing regular progress reports (for stakeholders & upper management).
- Support the research, facilitation, creation and communication of the multi-business and transformation strategy for TB
- Work with Strategy stakeholders within TB and across Commercial Banking (CB) to align the vision and execution
- Apply thought-leadership, providing insight-driven solutions and informing strategic decision-making in alignment with CB and partner/ organizational strategies
- Coordination of events both internal and external, ensuring activities align with TB vision and budget
- Business Performance Management, Governance & Reporting
- Work closely with Trade Finance Solutions
- Maintains a governance mindset and facilitate reporting for TB, including benefits tracking, investment portfolio, prioritization, etc.
- Draw insights from reporting to drive deeper understanding more effective story-telling
- Prepare for and facilitate strategic discussions with senior leaders (e.g. MBRs, QBRs, etc)
- Knowledge of RBC and various Transaction Banking products
- Provides guidance to other team members by championing consistency and coaching within National Operating Office, and across Transaction Banking as it relates to revenue generation, cost effectiveness, operational / administrative effectiveness, compliance, etc.
- The individual must have the ability to manage tight timelines and conflicting priorities, develop presentation materials aligning with our strategies for leadership and tasks to enable the sales team.
- Collaborate with partners across Transaction Banking (Trade, Treasury, Deposits, Client Experience and Client Implementation & Integration), Commercial Banking, Products, Canadian Banking Operations, T&O Payment & Trade Ops (PTO), and other functional partners (e.g., tech teams, data partners) to make strategic decisions, resolve blockers / key issues, and execute business transformation initiatives.
- Analyze data and develop business cases to inform strategic business decisions
- Drive annual and quarterly planning activities, OKR development and check-ins to foster employee engagement
- Prepare content for events including program and business (ie town halls, business reviews, Regional Banking Conferences, Exec updates and other ad hoc presentations). This may include event planning and facilitation including Hybrid/Webex hosting, Slido facilitation and any other planning support for events
- Execute on demand/ad hoc initiatives or projects including managing project priorities, requirements, multiple and competing demands
What do you need to succeed?
Must have:
- Undergraduate Degree (preferably Business)
- Strong financial, business acumen, including experience with management reporting and data analysis.
- Experience in or understanding of Business Financial Services
- Extensive knowledge of the RBC Transaction Banking (Trade Finance and Cash Management) Products, emerging industry trends, and the ability to speak to broader RBC strategies
- Intermediate level of Microsoft Excel required (i.e. advanced formulas, pivot tables, report building)
- Strong technical acumen with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) along with SharePoint, Connect, (optional Tableau)
- Ability to get things done – ability to seek out information from multiple sources when path might not be clear (strong organizational awareness)
- Strong analytical skills and data-driven decision making / business analysis with the ability to effectively report on program level status and risks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills that builds presence and credibility across the business and organization, including exacting attention to detail related to complex and customized reporting requirements, with the ability to craft compelling presentations for a range of stakeholders.
- Strategic and creative thinker with a big picture mindset; ability to solve complex issues and drive change in the business
- Execute on various, sometimes complex initiatives with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities, having the ability to prioritize various and sometimes conflicting demands.
- Experience partnering with cross-platform groups (e.g. sales, business reporting, finance, product, operations, risk, etc) and demonstrate a strong ability to respectfully collaborate and influence to achieve alignment with partners.
- Self-starter who leads through ambiguity and demonstrates a problem-solving mindset.
- Proven ability to prioritize, manage, and execute projects and adapt to a fast-paced and evolving environment of change.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to develop relationships within Transaction Banking and with stakeholders, including managing stakeholder relationships
Nice to have:
- Experience in or understanding and knowledge of Trade Finance Solutions and Treasury Solutions acquired through previous Trade roles.
- RBC Transaction Banking or Commercial Banking experience
- Experienced working in ambiguous situations, ability to scope out work efforts to bring clarity to outcomes
- Experience supporting transformational efforts around strategy & business performance to drive meaningful change
