Job Description

The Senior Manager, Business Risk, provides support to RBC Wealth Management (WM) global business units and WM Operational Risk Management (ORM) leadership, by providing expertise, advice and counsel, enhancing management’s ability to anticipate and manage operational risks effectively with a focus on fraud and model risk management.

This includes supporting the design and execution of essential Operational Risk program with a focus on Fraud Risk and Model Risk including risk and control identification/assessment, risk reporting and assessments, root cause analysis reviews, and supporting strategic initiatives.

Reporting to the Director, WM Fraud Strategy, the Senior Manager, Business Risk will provide expert feedback on the operational risk impact of major change initiatives, process improvements, and transformational projects. The successful candidate will maintain critical linkages with Centres of Governance, 2LoD Operational Risk (GRM OR), Compliance, and other critical areas of dependency for WM to facilitate the exchange of information and integrated solutions to operational risk issues.

What will you do?
  • Support the maintenance and enhancement of the Fraud Risk Management for WM businesses globally, including WM Canada, WM Europe, WM Asia, Investor Services and Global Asset Managements.
  • Lead and support in the identification, analysis and development of WM fraud risk management practices in compliance with the Enterprise Fraud Risk Policy and Standards to prevent, detect, and reduce losses.
  • Assist the WM Director Fraud strategy in partnership with WM business to co-develop fraud controls to balance fraud risk vs. operational costs and the client experience while meeting the objectives of the business strategy.
  • Conduct and manage supporting evidence of quarterly WM Fraud Monitoring Analysis.
  • Support WM all BUs globally in the interpretation of Model Risk policy changes and coordinating the semi-annual attestation process.
  • Collaborate with the Model Risk designate/experts in the WM BUs to design a process to facilitate the maintenance of the model risk inventory and coordinate risk validation activities with GRM Model risk.
  • Work with the Model Risk designate/experts in the WM BUs to ensure that WM Business heads complete their attestation on a timely basis.
  • Contribute to operational risk reviews on the fraud risk and model risk impacts of major change initiatives, process improvements and transformational projects.
  • Support WM ORM regional teams from a Fraud risk and Model risk perspective to execute on the Operational Risk Program, including Risk & Control Assessments (RCSAs), Risk Appetite and Key Risk Indicators, Targeted Reviews and Root Causes Analysis.
  • Promote fraud risk management and model risk as an embedded discipline in the Wealth Management Operational Risk program.
  • Leverage insights from across RBC platforms and evolving industry best practices to deliver sound advice, innovation, and tailored services.
  • Manage critical evidence, archives and reference material – minutes, operating procedures, guidance documents, and supporting evidence for Fraud and Model Risk program.
What do you need to succeed?
Must Have
  • 5-8 years of combined knowledge, skill, and background in Operational Risk practices, Audit, or Compliance functions preferably with a focus on fraud or model risk.
  • University Degree and recognized Industry Qualifications – Securities Industry/Investment Management or equivalent courses.
  • Strong understanding of fraud risks in the financial services.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical (including qualitative and quantitative analysis) and research skills are essential as well as advanced desktop skills (e.g., excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to deal effectively with senior management and multiple stakeholders.
  • Effective communication and writing skills with the ability to present information effectively.
  • Consulting mindset with focus on making strategically aligned business recommendations.
Nice to Have
  • Excellent knowledge of Wealth Management and RBC’s products, processes, and organization.
  • Strong knowledge of wealth advisory, investment management, and financial planning front-office and back-office activities.
  • MBA, CFA, and/or degree in Forensic Accounting.
  • Experience in securities operations within one or more businesses in WM or comparable businesses. Experience supporting Canadian investment dealers, trading, and/or asset management.
  • In depth knowledge of a variety of banking products and services.
  • Ability to drive impact and influence through effective communication and collaborative, non-authoritative, partnerships.
