Job Description

As Senior Manager, Accounting Services in Bedford, NS, the primary focus of this role is to ensure the continuous and efficient operation of all aspects of the Fixed Assets and Settlement teams in accordance with established controls, governance and SLA’s, and to act as the primary relationship management contact for key Finance and Business partners. The role will be responsible for the identification and delivery of continuous improvement opportunities to improve the efficiency of the operation and to reduce or eliminate regional process variations.

What will you do?
  • Lead the end-to-end accounting process for fixed assets, including acquisition, capitalization, depreciation, impairment, and disposal. Ensure compliance with GAAP/IFRS and internal policies. Prepare and/or review fixed asset schedules, disclosures, and audit support documentation
  • Lead the end-to-end settlement process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with standards
  • Manage and mentor a team of 9-10 individuals
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
  • Ensure processes and teams align to Risk and Compliance policies and making changes as required
  • Ensure processes are efficient and effective making changes as necessary to improve or further automate processes, and reduce regional process variations
  • Be a change champion and successfully execute change while supporting employees through the process, and keeping them focused on business priorities
  • Developing team by providing focus and clarity in establishing individual goals, driving performance management
  • Relationship Manager and primary point of communication and escalation for Senior Finance Partners to periodically review relevant KPI’s, resolve issues in a timely manner, and promote ongoing improvement of end-to-end processes
  • Key knowledge resource on all matters affecting your teams
  • Reviews transactions/reports/documents to ensure compliance/adherence with policies/procedures/guidelines (SOX, G/L attestation, EUC, Enterprise G/L Attestation policy and APG)
What do you need to succeed?
  • Accounting designation (CPA)
  • University degree, majoring in accounting
  • Excellent people management and change management skills
  • Relevant working experience (5 years or more)
  • Excellent problem solving and proven analytical skills
  • High degree of initiative and solution-based attitude
  • Ability to work under pressure and demonstrate multi-tasking skill
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
Nice-to-have:
  • Public Accounting experience
  • SAP experience, Fixed Asset module
  • Familiarity with financial services industry
