Overview

Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Clio. Clio is a global leader transforming the legal experience for professionals and increasing access to justice.

We are seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This role is for someone who is passionate about building innovative solutions and tackling new challenges to make an impact. This role is available to candidates across Canada and the US. If you are local to one of our hubs (Toronto, Calgary, Burnaby), you will be in the office twice per week on days you choose. If you are not local, you may work remotely across Canada or the US; offices are open for visits.

Responsibilities
  • Develop advanced machine learning models using structured and unstructured data to improve customer experience.
  • Create Large Language Model (LLM) based solutions to save time and create efficiencies for Clio’s clients.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product management, operations, and data science to identify new ML-driven features for Clio customers.
  • Work in an agile environment with a team of machine learning engineers, MLOps engineers, and software developers across a variety of projects.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with open-source LLM foundation models and APIs for commercial LLMs (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini).
  • Hands-on experience in GenAI, NLP-based modeling, transformer-based models, prompt engineering and evaluation.
  • Proficiency in data manipulation, cleaning, and preprocessing for complex unstructured data sets.
  • A demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with distributed teams.
  • A track record of past projects demonstrating successes, challenges, and growth as an ML expert.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to build trust with internal teams and external customers.
  • Demonstrated success in mentoring within software development, particularly using an agile process for large-scale SaaS products.
  • A strong desire to continuously learn and refine your craft as an ML engineer.

The full salary range for this role is $154,700 to $182,000 to $209,300 CAD. Salary bands may differ based on location and currency. Benefits may differ by location.

  • We aim to hire candidates within the minimum to midpoint of the full salary range; internal employees who demonstrate sustained high performance may be offered toward the maximum. There are separate salary bands for other regions based on local currency.
