Job description

BrainBox AI utilizes self-adapted artificial intelligence technology to proactively optimize the energy consumption of one of the largest climate change contributors : Buildings.

Our AI engine supports a self-operating building that requires no human intervention. Using deep learning, cloud-based computing, and our proprietary process, our solution autonomously optimizes existing Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) control systems for maximum impact on energy consumption.

An exciting opportunity awaits the right candidate to be part of a fast-growing company. We are looking for a Senior IoT Controls Engineer . Following our acquisition by Trane Technologies, Brainbox AI is entering a phase of accelerated growth and global market expansion.

What you will do :

  • Lead the deployment, testing, and verification of advanced AI control algorithms in building automation systems
  • Strategically analyze and optimize building control systems for energy efficiency, zoning comfort, and operational performance
  • Architect and contribute to the development of complex HVAC and IoT control algorithms
  • Oversee & support onsite installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of IoT edge devices and integrated control systems
  • Support reconfiguration of GFX logic in local thermostats
  • Support and Lead management of local thermostat in IoT infrastructure
  • Lead cross-functional coordination with internal teams and external partners for project deployment, performance validation, and continuous improvement
  • Engage with customers to design custom HVAC control sequences, provide advanced diagnostics, and recommend retrofit strategies
  • Serve as a technical expert in the commissioning and validation of BMS, HVAC, and IoT control systems
  • Drive improvements to internal tools, processes, and workflows for energy analysis and control system optimization
  • Interpret complex mechanical, electrical, and control schematics to guide implementation
  • Provide high-level training and mentorship to clients and junior engineers on HVAC and IoT control systems
  • Document advanced control strategies, deployment processes, and optimization procedures
  • Identify system performance issues and develop corrective action plans based on data analysis and customer feedback
  • Deliver, review, and present performance reports with actionable insights to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption to maintain industry leadership
  • Support business development and pre-sales engineering as a technical subject matter expert
  • Perform other strategic and technical duties as needed

What you will need to be successful

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience with building automation, HVAC control systems, and IoT-based system integration
  • Proficient in DDC, PLC, or similar programming environments for BAS and IoT control
  • Deep knowledge of HVAC systems, building automation strategies, and energy management practices
  • Proven track record in commissioning complex building automation and control systems
  • Expert-level understanding of control theory, adaptive algorithms, and control loop tuning
  • Experience with multiple proprietary platforms (JCI, Siemens, Honeywell, Alerton, Delta, Niagara, Schneider / TAC, etc.)
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of IoT architecture, edge computing, and communication protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, LonWorks)
  • Exceptional analytical skills in trend log analysis, data-driven performance tuning, and fault detection
  • Proficient in Python and data processing frameworks used in control and automation
  • Strong project management, communication, and leadership skills
  • Capable of leading client engagements and driving technical conversations
