The Company

Torn Banner Studios is a Toronto, Canada-based independent game development studio founded in 2010. We first made our mark with Chivalry : Medieval Warfare, a multi-million copy selling title that redefined melee combat in gaming. Since then, we’ve continued to grow and innovate, releasing Chivalry 2 and, most recently, No More Room in Hell 2, currently in Early Access. Today, our team of around 100 developers is dedicated to creating unique, challenging, and fun gaming experiences.

The Role

As a Senior Game Designer with an emphasis on Live Systems Design, you will be responsible for the design of Player Progression Features, Matchmaking Rating Systems and their balancing, Retention Features, Monetization Features and their respective game economies. You will oversee features throughout all stages of development - design, prototyping, implementation, and balancing. You will be working directly with all departments of the team to execute the game’s design and be responsible for writing and maintaining GDDs. You will play a significant and driving role in the company’s game design efforts with direct ownership over the Live Systems Design area and working closely with the studio\'s leadership in executing our projects.

Responsibilities
  • Design, prototype, and implement the data for your owned feature and systems, aligning with the vision for our games.
  • Collaborate with designers, programmers, and QA to ensure game features / systems are integrated smoothly and deliver a polished player experience.
  • Guide and collaborate with the Game Programming team and the UX-UI team to enhance the flow of development, ensuring efficient and flexible processes for iteration and testing.
  • Analyze player data, player feedback, and internal playtests to refine and iterate on game design features.
  • Provide accurate risk assessments to production, code, and design when new features are proposed.
  • Collaborate with production on Sprint and Milestone planning.
Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of experience as a game designer or systems designer in the video game industry.
  • At least 1 shipped title.
  • Experience working on action-combat or character-action games, ideally in FPS multiplayer environments.
  • Experience with live service games, ability to analyze gameplay data and player feedback to inform design decisions and balance features.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and presentation skills.
  • A high degree of self-motivation and initiative-taking, often working independently.
  • Solid knowledge of game production pipelines and tools.
  • Note: while this is a fully remote role, the position requires the candidate to be a resident of Ontario.
Bonus
  • Shipped titles on both PC and console platforms.
  • Experience working with Unreal Engine 4 or higher and UE\'s blueprint system.
  • Technical familiarity with programming and scripting language.
  • Eligible for game performance bonuses.
