Global Functions Technology (GFT) is part of RBC’s Technology and Operations division. Our clients represent Risk, Finance, HR, CAO, Audit, Legal, Compliance, Financial Crime, Capital Markets, Personal and Commercial Banking and Wealth Management. We also lead the development of digital tools and platforms to enhance collaboration.

What is the opportunity?

We are looking for a skilled Data Engineer to join our Toronto Fraud and AML IT team. Work on the development and deployment of data pipelines, drive innovation, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to drive business growth and improvement. The candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, software development and leadership, with a proven track record of delivering high‑quality solutions that meet business needs. The person will collaborate closely with team members under an Agile Squad including product owners, architects, business analysts and quality engineers.

The candidate possesses deep understanding of data management principles, modern data stack, cloud computing and the ability to apply them in practical, business‑focused context. Partners across IT and with assigned business line(s) to assess, research, and analyze business, technical and system needs in order to resolve business systems issues.

What will you do?
  • Creating software for retrieving, parsing and processing structured and unstructured data.
  • Defining and building scalable ETL/ELT workflows for reporting and analytics.
  • Developing scripts and programs for converting various types of data into usable formats.
  • Contribute to technical design, development, and implementation of applications.
  • Working with different RBC internal teams for software feature delivery, support and bug fixes.
  • Supporting project team to scale, monitor and operate data platforms for very high availability and performance.
  • Ensure code quality, performance, scalability, responsiveness of applications.
  • Participate in post‑implementation reviews of application, development, and processes, continually working to create a learning environment by sharing with others.
What do you need to succeed?
Must have
  • Payment domain experience especially in retail and commercial banking.
  • 4+ years of professional experience skills in one of the following programming languages such as Python, Scala, Java, or C++.
  • Strong NoSQL/SQL database skills.
  • Experience in working with Big Data Technologies (Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Kafka, Snowflake, Databricks, Azure Data Lake, Elastic Search).
  • Strong understanding of object‑oriented design and functional programming.
Nice-to-have
  • AML or Fraud Domain experience.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, and Azure) and MLOps tools.
  • Strong understanding of software development principles, including design patterns, testing, and deployment. Experience with DevOps practices such as CI/CD, experience with containerization using Docker and Kubernetes.
