The Scientific Research and Experimental Development (“SR&ED”) Senior Consultant (“Senior Consultant”) is responsible for assisting clients in identifying and claiming SR&ED tax credits and supporting the SR&ED Director in defending these credits during CRA reviews. The role involves project-based work, including onsite visits to client facilities, collaborating with engineers and technical personnel. Responsibilities include researching tax law, documenting expense treatment, and completing detailed models and calculations.

Responsibilities
  • Interview clients to identify SR&ED eligible projects and gather necessary information for T661 filings.
  • Prepare technical narratives for SR&ED tax credit claims, including identifying involved employees, subcontractors, and materials, and estimating effort expended.
  • Ensure claims are prepared, signed off by the SR&ED Director and clients, and filed with CRA within 45 days of the initial technical meeting.
  • Support clients during CRA technical reviews and respond to CRA correspondence regarding the claims.
  • Record client interviews and store recordings securely.
  • Gather supporting documents for claims.
  • Participate in sales activities and business development meetings.
  • Collaborate with technical advisors to develop tools for SR&ED claim preparation.
  • Track time spent on clients and activities.
  • Assist in preparing client proposals, strategies, and project plans.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in IT, Software Development, Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical), or Science, with at least two years of SR&ED tax credit experience. Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills are essential.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and internet research.

Licenses

Valid driver’s license required.

Supervisory Role

This position may involve supervisory duties, including training peers and reviewing work for accuracy.
