Here is the Scoop – Summary

The Senior Consolidation Accountant (12-month contract) will lead the financial consolidation process for multiple entities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely reporting of financial information for the company.

This role will also perform a variety of complex accounting activities, including reconciling accounts, so that the organization has a full and accurate statement of its financial position, and to provide strategic insights to support business decisions.

This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively collaborate with cross‑functional teams and critical stakeholders across multiple entities within the organization.

The Senior Consolidation Accountant is based out of our Edmonton corporate office and will work on a hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office and reports to the Senior Manager, Financial Operations.

What a typical day looks like:
  • Lead the consolidation process for multiple entities, including subsidiaries and international divisions, directing the preparation of financial reports and accounting statements.
  • Prepare consolidation journal entries, ensuring proper US GAAP is applied and timelines meet established departmental and corporate requirements.
  • Manage periodic reporting to the parent entity.
  • Collaborate with finance or cross‑functional teams across departments and regions to gather financial data, resolve discrepancies, and address accounting issues.
  • Compile comparative analysis in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability and performance against budget, so that senior management has accurate and timely information for making financial decisions.
  • Manage intercompany transactions, reconciliations and eliminations to ensure accurate reporting of financial results at the consolidated level.
  • Participate in a variety of diverse accounting activities in support of business activities.
  • Conduct ad‑hoc financial analysis and reporting as requested by management to support decision‑making, strategic planning, and business initiatives.
  • Stay updated on relevant accounting standards and apply technical accounting guidance to complex transactions and business arrangements.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline consolidation processes, improve efficiency, and enhance controls. Implement best practices to optimize the consolidation and reporting process.
  • As a Finance team member, demonstrate business acumen and partnership to the broader organization through asking questions, demonstrating curiosity and challenging status‑quo in the spirit of continuous improvement and fostering a high‑performance collaboration environment.
  • Ensure compliance with Finance policies and procedures, and internal controls.
  • Ensure the strict confidentiality and privacy of the Company’s financial records.
What are we looking for?
  • CPA professional accounting designation and a related university degree and three years of experience in financial management; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Understand translation of foreign entities’ financial statements to a reporting currency, as well as principles of Consolidation Accounting.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial reports for accuracy and reasonableness and to prepare and maintain various supporting schedules.
  • Experience in the areas of business analysis, business transformation, organizational effectiveness, and business process improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to communicate well with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational, time management and prioritizing skills, with accuracy and attention to detail while working under tight deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills through experience working on complex transactions.
  • Knowledge and expertise of accounting systems, budgets and internal controls.
  • Strong computer skills, with a high level of proficiency in Excel and MS Word; experience with an ERP system an asset.
  • Self‑directed, with demonstrated integrity and professionalism with ability to work successfully both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to respect and maintain matters of a confidential nature, including information regarding monetary transactions.
  • Some extended hours of work may be required.
  • Some travel may be required.
