Alberta Health Services (AHS) has an exciting position available as Senior Advisor, Provincial Virtual Children’s Rehabilitation. Reporting to the Program Manager, Provincial Virtual Children’s Rehabilitation, you are the key contact person who facilitates collaboration between AHS program leaders and First Nations, Métis and Inuit(FNMI) traditional, political and health leaders to improve engagement with and the health and wellness of Indigenous people. You possess knowledge and experience of Indigenous health, Ways of Knowing, ability to support identified priorities and lead new ways of thinking. With a minimum of five years experience with urban and rural FNMI people/communities, you engage FNMI communities by developing relationships, trust, and collaboration with Allied Health Professions and Pediatric Allied Health teams. The Senior Advisor works with staff and physicians to better understand the complex jurisdictional issues affecting health care services and programs for Indigenous people and ensure continuity of care within a multi-jurisdictional system (local, provincial, and federal). You will be the content expert to internal and external partners to influence the development and implementation of culturally appropriate, acceptable and affirming Indigenous health programs, services and resources within the province. The Senior Advisor, Provincial Virtual Children’s Rehabilitation provides leadership to provincial pediatric rehabilitation initiatives and facilitates improved understanding of FNMI communities. This position supports collaboration between FNMI communities, community organizations, and Provincial Health Agencies in the development of health services to address the unique Indigenous Health challenges of FNMI people across the province. You will engage with Indigenous Cultural Helpers, Health Coordinators and other Indigenous led roles in the zones/corridors and support enhancements across the province. In addition, you will collaborate with Indigenous groups and communities in identified geographic areas to plan, develop and evaluate culturally appropriate and acceptable programs and services. By implementing cultural competency and health literacy strategies within the program, you create awareness of the individual and systemic barriers (poverty, remote communities, limited wifi, lack of transportation) and challenges (systemic racism, history of colonization and residential schools) experienced by Indigenous people related to accessing quality health care services, and guide dissemination of learning through listening, observing, shared reflection, storytelling and celebration.
