Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Accountant within our Corporate Accounting group. The Senior Accountant is responsible for corporate accounting, reporting, and business unit performance measurement for the group. As Senior Accountant, you will provide oversight for corporate entities and coordinate the accounting and reporting from multiple operational accounting groups, accounts payable, tax and treasury for the purpose of delivering both business unit specific and consolidated group financial reports. The Senior Accountant assists management in training and mentorship of other accountants. An effective Senior Accountant is capable of identifying opportunities for efficiencies and operates effectively in both a team environment and for independent tasks.
Key Responsibilities - General Accounting and Reporting- Prepare quarterly and annual financial reporting packages for individual entities, consolidated corporate groups, strategic business units, and business partners
- Collaborate with the accounts payable, payroll, tax, treasury, project and property management accounting groups to ensure the integrity and consistency of accounting records in accordance with GAAP and group reporting standards
- Act as a team resource to resolve accounting questions and issues including identifying, researching, and coordinating implementation of complex or new GAAP accounting issues
- Prepare complex journal entries and schedules for assigned entities and consolidated financial statements
- Coordinate and follow all aspects of month-end close, quarter-end, and year-end activities to meet reporting deadlines.
- Review trial balances and other financial information for entities where accounting is done in-house as well as externally managed investments
- Liaise with financial statement auditors and prepare audit information and supporting documents.
- Review invoices, journal entries, and reports prepared by junior, intermediate accountants, and accounts payable staff for accuracy and follow up to resolve accounting discrepancies
Key Responsibilities - Budgeting and Forecasting- Support the corporate budgeting and reforecasting processes
- Review and analyze financial and non-financial data for assigned overhead departments and assist with overhead analysis
- Assist with the corporate cash flow budgeting and forecasting process
Key Responsibilities - Other Duties- Mentor and develop junior accountants for both technical capabilities and soft skills
- Develop or assist in broader training programs for the accounting group
- Proactively identify and implement improvements to accounting procedures and systems to maximize efficiency and quality in the accounting group
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned by management
Desired Skills and Experience- Completion of accounting designation (CMA, CGA, CA, CPA) and university level education
- Minimum 4 years of progressive experience in a public practice accounting firm or experience in a structured and complex full-cycle accounting environment
- Strong understanding of accounting standards (ASPE)
- High level experience in computer skills: Microsoft Office including advanced level MS Excel skills
- Takes ownership and capable of operating independently
- Effective critical thinking, problem solving, organizational, and time management skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks as part of a team or independently in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable and confident in asking questions
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to contribute effectively within a team environment
The following are assets:
- Experience with a reputable CPA firm involved in complex financial statement analysis and reporting
- Financial statement consolidation experience
- Working knowledge and research experience with REALpac.
- Experience with Yardi and Caseware
- Experience with PowerBI and AI
$80,000 - $100,000 a year
The annual base pay range for this position will be based on the desired experience level for this role.
