Senior Accountant

Our client—a dynamic and growing real estate investment and management company based in Toronto—is looking for a Real Estate Accountant to join their team.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to take ownership of full-cycle accounting for a diverse real estate portfolio, including income-producing assets and development projects. The role offers a blend of day-to-day financial operations, reporting, and collaboration across asset management, finance, and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee property- and portfolio-level accounting, ensuring accurate financial records for both operating and development assets.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements, reconcile general ledgers, and manage budgeting vs. actual reporting.
  • Handle accounts payable / receivable, bank reconciliations, and intercompany transactions.
  • Support cash flow forecasting and assist with the preparation of investor and management reports.
  • Liaise with property managers, asset managers, and external auditors to ensure data accuracy and timely reporting.
  • Maintain and improve processes related to rent rolls, CAM reconciliations, and tenant billings.
  • Assist with financing administration and compliance reporting for lenders and partners.
  • Support system enhancements and contribute to accounting workflow improvements.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, ideally with 2+ years in real estate (commercial, residential, or mixed-use).
  • Familiarity with real estate financial reporting, operating statements, and industry-specific metrics.
  • Experience with property management and accounting platforms such as Yardi, MRI, or similar.
  • Proficiency in Excel, with the ability to analyze and present financial data clearly.
