Senior Accountant

Portofino Bakery, a leading artisan bakery in British Columbia, is seeking a Senior Accountant to oversee core accounting functions, mentor junior staff, and support accurate, timely financial reporting. The role reports to the Financial Controller and requires strong analytical skills, internal control acumen, and experience with SAP/Sage.

Responsibilities
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes, ensuring accurate subledger closure.
  • Prepare financial statements, reconciliations, and analysis for the Financial Controller.
  • Support external audit and prepare audit documents.
  • Manage fixed assets, capital lease schedules, and related entries.
  • Perform intercompany, bank, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
  • Provide AR support, researching variances and assisting collections.
  • Assist with budgeting, cash flow reporting, and forecasting activities.
  • Oversee accurate and timely AP processing, reviewing vendor statements and resolving discrepancies.
  • Support SAP implementation projects, including data validation, testing, and workflow integration.
  • File statutory filings, file sales taxes, and assist with ad‑hoc analysis and projects.
Qualifications
  • Proven accounting experience in a senior or intermediate role.
  • Experience mentoring or overseeing junior team members.
  • Strong understanding of full‑cycle accounting, including month‑end and year‑end.
  • Competency in MS Office (Excel and Word).
  • Experience with SAP/Sage is a strong asset.

  • Salary: $72,000 to $82,000 per year (annual)
  • Terms: Permanent full‑time employment
  • Shift: 8‑hour shifts, Monday to Friday
