What Would You Do?

Palliser Furniture Ltd. is currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Security Officer. The successful candidate will contribute to a safe environment for all who access Palliser Furniture properties and provide the security function for all Winnipeg facilities, including products, employees, and visitors, while maintaining professionalism, respect, and customer service.

The duties and responsibilities of this position would include:

  • Follow the Standard Operating Procedures to control access to Palliser property, including registration of visitors and trailers, and prevent and/or detect breaches in security as it pertains to Palliser policies and the law.
  • Provide directions to visitors on the property, including ambulance, fire, and police.
  • Use security cameras on a regular basis throughout day and evening shifts.
  • Document and control removal of product from Palliser property and distribute documents to truck drivers for shipments of Palliser product.
  • Conduct daily assessment of security risks at the site, including considerations such as layoffs and terminations.
  • Maintain patrols of areas internally and externally to Palliser property based on the Site Standing Orders, including checking boilers, sprinklers, doors, gates, etc.
  • Conduct property searches (e.g., lockers, vehicles, purses) based on a directive from divisional management/security supervisor according to the Search and Seizure Policy.
  • Deal with employee conflicts (e.g., damage to vehicles, disruptive individuals) and negotiate with individuals who may be hostile or in possession of weapons or drugs on Palliser property.
  • Ensure that CT-PAT regulations are followed with respect to sealing of trailers and that drivers present proper paperwork when accessing or leaving the property.
  • Resolve discrepancies with shipping leaders and may place a load on hold.
  • May assist the supervisor in internal or external investigations related to security.
  • Hand out warning tickets to vehicles parked where they should not be.
  • Respond to emergency situations such as bomb threats, fires, police or crowd control scenarios.

What Do You Bring?

  • Must be available to work any shifts during the week (day, afternoon, evening). No shifts after midnight, on the weekends, or on statutory holidays.
  • Previous experience in a security role.
  • Must hold a valid Manitoba Government Security License
  • Clear Criminal Background Check
  • Must hold a Class 5 driver's license
  • First Aid and CPR
  • Exposure to methods of crowd control
  • Experience in working with the public
  • Basic computer skills and ability to follow written instructions
  • Proficiency in reading and writing English
  • Ability to communicate with internal and external contacts both verbally and in writing
  • Flexible and available for on-call shifts
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
