Position Details

Position: Full-Time Security Guard

Site: St. Joseph’s Care Group Facilities - Hogarth Riverview Manor
Address: 300 Lillie Street North, Thunder Bay ON

Averaging Agreement: Overtime is Averaging Agreement (AA) after 88 hours

Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday (16:00-00:00); Saturday and Sunday (08:00-16:00)

Payrate: $19.80 / hour after completion of site training

Posting Date: September 23, 2025

Internal Closing Date: October 1, 2025

Key responsibilities
  • Patrol Hospital Grounds: Conduct regular rounds of hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure safety and security.
  • Monitor Surveillance Systems: Operate security cameras and alarm systems, reporting any suspicious activity immediately.
  • Operate Switchboard duties including call handling, dispatching, monitoring building alarm systems and CCTV.
  • Access Control: Monitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring only authorized individuals access restricted areas.
  • Respond to Emergencies: Act quickly in emergencies; assist staff during crises and evacuations.
  • Provide Use of Force/Restraint: Apply as required and directed under the Mental Health Act.
  • Provide Customer Service: Greet and assist visitors, patients, and staff; provide directions and enforce hospital policies.
  • Conflict Resolution: De-escalate tense situations and handle interactions calmly and professionally.
  • Report Writing: Document daily activities and incidents; complete incident reports as needed.
  • Collaboration with Hospital Staff: Work with hospital staff and local law enforcement to ensure safety.
  • Enforce Hospital Policies: Ensure adherence to visitor and patient protocols.
Prerequisites
  • Valid Security License for Ontario
  • Valid First Aid & CPR - Level C
  • Covid Vaccine two doses
  • Immunization records for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella and two-step TB skin test
  • Valid G class Driver License
  • English (oral and written) fluency
  • Previous security, law enforcement, or related experience preferred
  • Certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
  • Option to join Paladin\'s UOF/MOAB training prior to onboarding; training is not paid, but costs are covered with a 6-month commitment
  • Authorized to legally work in Canada
