Overview

  • We invite applications for the position of Library Technician - Science, 35 hours per week. The current rate of pay is $31.13 per hour.
  • This position is based at the Learning Resource Centre (LRC), however may be required to support other Library Learning Commons as operational needs arise
Qualifications

Grade 12 education supplemented by completion of formal library program diploma such as library technician; demonstrated ability with a variety of computer technology applications including: Microsoft Office Suite Program, database management, and automated library Systems; minimum of three years current experience in a school or public library; familiarity with children\'s literature appropriate to the needs of the students; familiarity with reference and academic resources that pertain to curriculum learning outcomes; familiarity with classroom instructional science equipment and materials; good knowledge of the English language, written and oral; French language comprehension at an intermediate level; meets the physical requirements of the position, including the ability to stand and lift up to 45 lbs on an occasional basis; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties are performed under the supervision of the Director of Instruction K-12 or designate; assembles, catalogues, circulates and maintains elementary science kits, using the District Media Management System; assists and supports the District Teacher Librarian in collection management according to district policy and procedures; cleans and performs minor repairs to science equipment; assists teachers and parents in selection of science materials and equipment; assists in the circulation and maintenance of the general Learning Resources collection; may be assigned to support a school library if/when needed; follows proper work procedures, observes all regulations pertinent to the work, maintains a good working relationship with other employees, and cooperates in maintaining a healthy learning and work environment; performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor; student supervision as required by the Principal or Vice Principal.
