RQ09981 - Software Developer - Full Stack - Senior

3-month contract (fiscal year end), 3 possible extensions

To respond to the priorities of the Government of Ontario through the passage of the Bill 5, Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act 2025, the resource may be partially assigned to Bill 5 related projects or initiatives on an as needed basis.

Background:

This Ceres application was launched in February 2023 for ministry users, to improve management of plant health data and enable timely access to critical information (present and historical), as well as efficient identification of pest threats. The requirement is to make sure that the CERES application is continuously available, while also enabling implementation of bug fixes, issue resolution or minor improvements, based on user feedback.

We are looking for a senior full stack software developer who will be responsible for providing maintenance and support for the Ceres application. The Ceres application is built using MERN (MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js) technology stack and hosted on Azure OPS tenant. The work activities for Ceres Maintenance and Support will entail:

  • Responding to and resolving any issues reported on the application and ensuring that the application is continuously available for use
  • Identifying and prioritizing technical upgrades to keep the platform up to date, including upgrades to the components in the technology stack
  • Bug Fixes and Improvements identified regarding the functionality of the application

Must have:
  • 7+ years full-stack developer experience, working with the specific MERN (MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js) technology stack.
  • 4+ years developing and documenting build books for managing build and deployment of application releases
  • Technical documentation skills to ensure all technical documentation are sufficiently updated to ensure proper knowledge transfer
  • Experience designing and delivering solutions which incorporate
  • Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA)
  • Experience working in an Agile software delivery environment
  • Knowledge of IT security best practices and protocols (OAuth 2, SAML)
Desirable Skills / Nice-to-Have's
  • Experience building and deploying cloud native solutions, ideally in Azure
  • Experience working on Agricultural data collection and analysis applications
  • Familiarity with relevant Government of Ontario Information and Technology Standards (GO-ITS)
  • Experience in source control, DevOps, CI/CD, and related tools (Azure DevOps, Git)
