A leading educational institution in Alberta is seeking a passionate individual for the position of Research Technologist Level 1. This entry-level position involves technical work supporting applied research activities in the oil sands industry. Responsibilities include data collection, routine testing, and training of staff and students. A technical diploma and at least a year of related experience are required. The Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability (CEES) is looking to hire one passionate individual to join our team as a research technologist level 1. CEES is located at NAIT’s new, state-of-the-art research laboratory in the Productivity and Innovation Centre. CEES is staffed by an expert team of applied scientists, engineers and technicians. We bridge the gap between existing oil sands and mining environmental research and real-world solutions, taking innovative ideas from concept to commercialization. We work with business and industry to develop technologies that improve the economic and environmental performance of the oil sands industry. This position involves routine, entry level technical work in support of applied research activities.
Collect, enter and report experimental data. Routine tests that this position will perform include: Dean & Stark analysis, particle size distribution by wet sieve and by laser diffraction, Methylene blue index testing, Atterberg limit testing, vane yield strength measurements, flocculation and water quality analysis. Other specialized tests will be trained for as required. Capture key learnings on test methods and their applications into operating procedures. Train other staff and students on methods used in the centre. Participate in meetings with higher level researchers to evaluate and interpret the validity of data. Cleaning, basic equipment maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
Technical diploma in a related field (Chem Tech, Civil Tech, etc.) with a minimum of 1 year of related experience. Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
