A leading research hospital in Toronto is seeking an individual to assist with virology research projects. The role involves conducting wet-lab projects and patient chart reviews in a BSL2 and BSL3 environment. Candidates should have a Bachelor of Science, experience in a clinical laboratory, and strong communication and organizational skills. Sunnybrook Research Institute is the research enterprise of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, a teaching hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. Research spans three Toronto-based campuses, eight programs and three scientific platforms. Our main aims are to understand and prevent disease, and to develop treatments that enhance and extend life. Our vision is to invent the future of health care. Each year, we conduct about $100 million in research across 500,000 square feet, including in the world’s first Centre for Research in Image-Guided Therapeutics.
Dr. Kozak’s research group is involved in studying emerging viruses to better understand viral pathogenesis, develop novel diagnostics and evaluate countermeasures. Additionally, work focuses on the genomic epidemiology of respiratory pathogens to better understand transmission and improve surveillance.
The individual will assist with multiple ongoing research projects in the lab related to virology. These will include both wet-lab based projects (eg. cell culture, animal studies) in both a BSL2 and BSL3 environment as well as patient chart reviews. Additionally the individual will assist with reagent ordering and other lab operational duties as needed.
Bachelor of Science required (MSc an asset)
