ISS STOXX is looking for a Research Associate to join our Market Intelligence - Research Development team in Toronto. This presents an exciting opportunity to shape and make a significant contribution to the US research component of the Global Research team at ISS Market Intelligence (MI).
ISS MI provides critical data and insights to global asset managers, insurance companies and distributors to help make informed, strategic decisions to manage and grow their business. Through its combination of proprietary and integrated datasets, in-depth global research and trusted executive engagement, MI delivers solutions for market sizing, competitor benchmarking, product strategy and opportunity identification across a wide range of financial products, including funds, annuities, insurance, mortgages, and other instruments. The MI suite of solutions encompasses industry-leading data platforms that cover the US, Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia.
MI Research clients span a broad spectrum from major financial companies, including asset managers, banks, wealth managers, mutual fund companies, life insurers, and brokerage firms, to regulators, government agencies, and industry associations. Our research teams engage with multiple levels within our client organizations, ranging from analysts to C-suite business leaders, both as part of our research processes and through numerous individual and group client interactions.
Responsibilities:
The ongoing research responsibilities of the position feed into quarterly, semi-annual and annual subscription-based research publications, as well as being a key support for one-time engagements and research projects focused on the US market. The role involves ongoing tracking of product and distribution channel metrics, engaging with internal and external parties to build knowledge and deliver insight.
Specifically, on a day-to-day basis, the Research Associate’s responsibilities encompass the following:
Propose, conceptualize, and execute analyses to identify and present key trends
Develop engaging narratives based on ISS MI’s US datasets that can be delivered through written, video, and presentation mediums
Leverage vast MI Research and Product capabilities in various geographies to expand the scope of MI US researchBuild and present insights to broad industry audiences, as well as executives and business unit leaders at MI clients and potential clients
Proactively expand MI Research industry networks and mobilize these relationships to generate intelligence and data capital for MI Research (both US and global industry coverage)
Support Head of Research Development and Global Head of Product in identifying and incubating new US data sets for MI US data and analytical solutionsPro-actively share knowledge and understanding of industry developments with the broader global ISS MI Research team, on a formal and informal basis

Qualifications:
The ISS MI Research environment is best suited to self-starting, highly motivated individuals who can deal with the pressures of learning/researching, developing analyses and delivering research outputs within specific timelines.
Candidates should have:
Bachelor's degree in economics, finance, commerce, or business administration. Other disciplines such as mathematics, statistics or social sciences will be considered in combination with experience. Master’s degree is a plus.
5+ years of experience in wealth and/or asset management industries required. US wealth and/or asset management experience preferred.
Network of US industry contacts preferred but not required.
Must be proficient in standard office software (MS Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
Strong command and understanding of MS Excel and working knowledge of databases and assets.
High attention to detail and data integrity.
Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and people management skills.
Sense of responsibility for deadlines and deliverables.
The flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
