Company Description

The Mississauga News is looking for a passionate, experienced journalist with proven digital storytelling skills to report on municipal news, business, and everyday life in Mississauga.

This is a full-time, permanent position.

Annual Salary: $37,850.13 to $56,829.84

The News has been keeping Mississauga residents informed on issues that impact their lives, including local government decisions, education, healthcare, crime, and community events since 1965.

Job Description
  • Coordinate with the Managing Editor to generate fresh and interesting local news and feature stories.
  • Provide comprehensive and engaging coverage of municipal government, using traditional and alternative story forms.
  • Adapt to an environment where news and information are updated frequently, and the work atmosphere demands urgency.
  • Produce high-quality, trustworthy journalism through excellent reporting and research skills, including data analysis.
  • Understand the value of information, big and small, and its connection to our readers.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • You have a diploma or degree in journalism or a related field.
  • You’re a motivated self-starter, innovative, driven, with the ability to write clear copy and take photos.
  • You have proven news judgment and a strong work ethic.
  • You possess online posting skills and understand social media platforms for sourcing and sharing information.
  • You’re highly organized, capable of managing time and prioritizing tasks.
  • You thrive under deadlines and excel in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • You’re a team-oriented individual who can build professional relationships with colleagues and the community.
  • You’re well-versed in Canadian libel law and Canadian Press style.
  • You are willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • You can work remotely but are able to travel within the community for assignments. Familiarity with Mississauga and Peel Region is an asset.
