ERCO Worldwide is looking for a Relief Operator to join our Operations team! The Operator is responsible to learn and build experience for the safe, efficient and environmentally sound operation of the R10 Chlorine Dioxide and R11 Sodium Chlorite manufacturing processes and utilities while working a 12-hour rotating shift schedule. They must have the ability to quickly responded to plant upsets and emergency situations with the aid of an Experienced Operator. This can require a high degree of physical activity and/or mental alertness. Initially, the Operator will focus on raw material unloading and sodium chlorite loading operations while they gain experience on an intermittent basis to operate the R10 or R11 processes.

The Role:
  • Operates and monitors the R10 Chlorine Dioxide Process or the R11 Sodium Chlorite Process and all utilities.
  • Completes all process testing, process logs and operating equipment inspection.
  • Coordinates area activities with maintenance and maintenance contractors. Locks out equipment and completes all applicable Safe Work and Hot Work Permits.
  • Regularly unloads caustic, sulphuric acid, methanol, sodium chlorate crystal and peroxide railcars and trucks on a temporary emergency basis when required. Regularly loads sodium chlorite railcars and trucks and sodium chlorate trucks on an irregular schedule.
  • Conducts other tasks as assigned including general housekeeping of the process areas and receiving. May assist maintenance personnel during emergency repairs or unscheduled downtime.
  • Participants in training on a routine basis. May provide training/shadowing of contract summer students but not final sign-off.
  • Light maintenance work such as changing chemical filters require skill and dexterity in use of small hand tools.
  • Operations cover several floors and require agility in climbing stairs, walking on metal walkways, tank cars, etc.
  • Manual skill and coordination is required in the operation of forklift truck and rail car mover.
The Person:
  • High School Diploma Required.
  • A Background in Chemistry is an asset.
  • Must possess basic computer skills required to enter service/work orders, use email and Microsoft Word/Excel is required.
  • A good understanding of interface with DCS systems, SharePoint, assessing operating instructions and other process information electronically is required.
  • Refrigeration Operator Class B Certification is preferred.
  • Written and oral communication skills are key attributes.
  • Mental agility is necessary to quickly respond to emergency plant situations; discern task priorities and monitor multiple processes simultaneously.
  • Continuously build a working knowledge of instruments, DCS controls, manufacturing processes and equipment, environmental equipment, and plant utility systems.
  • Job requires a moderate degree of manual skill to operate valves, pumps, switches, etc.
