The Opportunity

Registration is the first point of contact for patients and clients and is responsible for providing exceptional customer service from the outset of the patient experience. Responsibilities include reception duties, registration of patients and confirmation of demographic data, patient admission and bed allocation, data quality, facilitation of payment, wayfinding, and non-clinical patient assistance (responding to general inquiries, directing patients and visitors to the most appropriate clinical team member, aiding patients to obtain services). The team monitors and responds to alarms, announces codes via overhead paging system, and follows established hospital code protocols.

Qualifications
  • OSSD or equivalent
  • Previous clerical experience in the health care field
  • Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology
  • Medical Office Administration course an asset
  • Knowledge of Meditech computer system an asset
  • Proficient computer skills and typing
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent customer service demeanour
  • Ability to accurately perform the duties of the role with a focused attention to detail
  • Must strive to continuously provide a safe and supportive environment for patients, staff, physicians, and volunteers
  • Must adhere to the duties of workers, as stipulated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Must have an ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) in English; ability to communicate in additional languages is an asset

  • Must be able to perform all bona fide and essential duties of the position, including physical tasks such as moving/transferring patients, pushing, pulling, bending

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Registers patients using the Meditech system; captures and enters data accurately into the electronic chart
  • Obtains required information and payment method for visits (OHIP, WSIB, direct payment for uninsured patients)
  • Screens patients for IPAC and Falls Prevention queries
  • Contacts MOH regarding Health Card Numbers as required
  • Ensures information is obtained from patients arriving by ambulance to create accurate emergency records
  • Generates patient labels and charts for departments as requested
  • Applies patient registered visit armband with two-factor identification
  • Provides directions/information regarding the hospital to patients, visitors, and service providers
  • Manages separation and distribution of Emergency and Ambulance records with required patient and account information
  • Performs cashier duties to manage payments, ODSP submissions, uninsured prepayments, and issue receipts
  • Operates switchboard after hours and as requested

Employment Type: Temporary Part-Time (approximately 6 months)

Start Date: In line with next Hospital Orientation intake

Hours of Work: Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends (8 and 12-hour shifts). Hospital operations run 24/7. Depending on the program, availability may include weekdays, weekends, days, evenings, and nights. Part-Time: up to 24 hours per week (48/pay).

Wage: $30.757 - $31.144 per hour plus applicable shift premiums
