Overview

Registered Practical Nurse (Retirement Home)

Casa Dolce Casa is seeking a care-centered team player to fulfill the role of Registered Practical Nurse. This is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to be a critical member of the health and wellness team. If you are able to demonstrate empathy and have an understanding of the needs of seniors, this may be the right opportunity for you!

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the health and wellness of all the residents;
  • Assist with the assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation of individualized care to meet the resident’s holistic needs and promote and respect the Resident Bill of Rights;
  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of the resident plan of care. Implement nursing care as outlined in the resident specific plan of care;
  • Communicate resident care needs and changes in resident status to the Head Nurse and to resident key contacts;
  • Provide input into the need for a resident transfer into or out of the unit;
  • Direct the health and wellness staff and ensure their responsibilities are completed in an accurate and timely manner;
  • Provide medication support and administration;
  • Respond to all emergency situations;
  • Complete pertinent documentation and in keeping with assigned deadlines;
  • Communicate with the members of the interdisplinary team such as staff, residents, family and physicians;
  • Ensure narcotic medication is stored and accounted for according to Casa Dolce Casa’s policy and procedure;
  • Participate in orientation and on-the-job training of staff as required;
  • Communicate the need for nursing supplies required to the Head Nurse. In absence of the Head Nurse, complete the appropriate requisition form for supplies;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, for example the Retirement Homes Act, 2010 and its regulations;
  • Meet the Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario at all times;
  • Staffing replacement tasks (i.e. sick calls);
  • All other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario, with medication administration qualifications;
  • Nursing experience in a similar setting;
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certificates is preferable or must obtain within the month of hire;
  • Ability to communicate to our senior residents, their families, colleagues, etc., in a friendly and professional manner;
  • Effective time management skills to work under specified time constraints and in accordance with job routines, while observing policies and procedures as well as applicable work standards and safety regulations;
  • The ability to focus on multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Must be able to anticipate problems and use sound judgment and tact in handling confidential matters;
  • Must be knowledgeable of pertinent legislation and regulations including the Retirement Homes Act, 2010 and its regulations;
  • The ability to conduct your work on a computer utilizing Microsoft Office programs, familiarity with Point Click Care program will be considered as an asset;
  • A criminal records/vulnerable sector check, TB screening using a two-step Mantoux tuberculin test, and satisfactory professional references.
