Job Description
Responsibilities
  1. Ensure resident care is provided with established nursing standards and principles, physicians’ orders, and administrative policies, as well as observe, report, and record vital signs, symptoms, and conditions of residents, and initiate remedial health measures where appropriate.
  2. Assure observance of required techniques in nursing care.
  3. Assess residents and develop, implement, review, and evaluate resident care plans. Monitor residents’ health, note changes in condition, and assess the need for referral to doctors; process and implement physician orders.
  4. Organize and direct functions and activities related to the provision of care to residents including restorative and palliative care as required.
  5. Interpret and implement established policies, procedures, and regulations.
  6. Plan, direct, supervise, and evaluate the work of nursing and personal care staff assigned to the unit.
  7. Orient and train new personnel and may participate in in-service education.
  8. Monitor performance and conduct performance appraisals, referring problems to the Director of Care.
Qualifications
  1. Appropriate current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario required.
  2. Registration or eligibility for registration with the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario.
  3. Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and healthcare practices, including Infection Control Practices.
  4. Effective human relation skills and a demonstrated commitment to working with seniors.
  5. Effective communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  6. Ability to speak Cantonese or Mandarin is an asset.
