Responsibilities

The Locum Program is focused on specific assignments opportunities for short term periodsto address high staffing needs in theEastern Zone.

Reporting to the Site Lead / Health Services Manager, the Registered Nurse is a health professional who, through the nursing process and therapeutic relationship, assists clients and families to attain/maintain an optimal health status. The Registered Nurse is also responsible for the overall planning and delivery of nursing care. The Rural Locum Registered Nurse practices within the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia, CRNNS Standards of Nursing Practice for Registered Nurses and the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics, providing guidance and leadership to peers and other staff; working in a collaborative relationship with colleagues, unit staff, students and members of various related health disciplines.

Please Note: You may be required to work at various rural facilities within the Eastern Zone which could include Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Sacred Heart Hospital, Eastern Memorial Hospital, Guysborough Memorial Hospital, Strait Richmond Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital.

Medical/Surgical Areas:

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure with theNova Scotia College of Nursing(NSCN)
  • A minimum of 1 years emergency nursing experience required
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Current RQI BLS or, BLS-C (Basic Life Support – C) required
  • Current RQI ALS or, ACLS – (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) an asset
  • Experience working in a rural setting considered an asset
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
About You (Continued)

Emergency Department Areas:

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure with theNova Scotia College of Nursing(NSCN)
  • A minimum of 3 years emergency nursing experience required
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • CTAS (Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale) required
  • EPICC – Foundations (Emergency Practice, Interventions and Care – Canada) or TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required
  • Current RQI BLS or, BLS-C (Basic Life Support – C) required
  • Current RQI ALS or, ACLS – (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required
  • Current RQI PALS or, PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support); EPICC – Pediatrics (Emergency Practice, Interventions and Care – Canada) or ENPC (Emergency Nurses Pediatric Course) required
  • Trauma course – EPICC - Trauma (Emergency Practice, Interventions and Care – Canada); Rural Trauma Program or TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required
  • Emergency Nursing Program or Critical Care Nursing Program an asset
  • ENC Certification an asset
  • If above not available at least five (5) years medical/surgical experience with evidence of good assessment skills.
  • Experience working in a rural setting considered an asset
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours
  • Short AssignmentFull-Time position(s), 75 Hours Bi-weekly.
  • Assignments are three (3) tosix (6) months duration.
  • Shifts include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
Compensation and Benefits

$40.55 - $49.99 hourly


$51.74 with 25 years of Registered Nursing experience.

This position is eligible for a Shift Premium of $6.00 per hour for all hours worked during the Locum assignment.
