Job description
Overview

The Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray, Alberta is seeking a Registered Intensive Care Unit Nurse to join the supportive ICU team. The ICU RN plans and implements patient care services for patients, families, and groups, following facility standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team to provide nursing care including assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation, using current principles, techniques, and procedures within scope of practice. This role may require shift work and lifting as part of patient care. Fort McMurray is located on Treaty 8 territory and the traditional lands of the Metis, offering a range of cultural, recreational, and community opportunities.

In addition to a competitive rate of pay, Alberta Health Services provides a Fort McMurray Allowance up to $12,480 annually, payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations, ensuring safety and well-being.
  • Utilize nursing processes with critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making; teach, counsel, and advocate for patients and families.
  • Play a leadership role in a holistic, integrated approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance.
  • Deliver safe, quality, patient- and family-centered care aligned with Alberta Health Services values and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate care and documentation.
  • Respond to patient acuity, prioritize care, and provide direction to team members within scope of practice.
  • Comply with licensing body requirements and the unit's policies and procedures.
Location and Status

Primary location: Fort McMurray Health Centre / Mount Health Centre; multi-site opportunities with UNA (depending on assignment).

Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
  • If not practiced as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse within the past five years, completion of required courses prior to employment (CRNA Medication Management; NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification).
  • Additional Required Qualifications
  • 2-3 years of current acute care experience as an RN.
  • 1-2 years of recent, relevant experience in an Intensive Care Unit or other Critical Care area.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Orientation Program for Adult Critical Care in Alberta (OPACCA) certification.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
