The University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually. The UAH and Stollery Children’s Emergency Department is a busy tertiary care level I emergency department and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This large tertiary Trauma Centre provides opportunities in a broad base of emergency nursing from Pediatrics to Trauma Care. Registered Nurses within the Emergency department work in a state-of-the-art facility utilizing an electronic tracking system, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for emergency patients. Decisions are made in a collaborative multidisciplinary health care team environment. In this role, you may be required to work in all areas of Emergency at the discretion of the Unit Manager/Charge Nurse. Working with us is about making a difference. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
Provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations; apply the nursing process through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making; teach, counsel and advocate for patients and families; support an integrated and holistic approach to patient care and health promotion; ensure safe, quality, patient- and family-centered care.
Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.
Additional Required Qualifications: 2 years of med/surg/acute care experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. RN Registration must be current with CARNA (Must provide certificate). Current Basic Life Support (BLS - Heart and Stroke AED Level C REQUIRED) - Healthcare Provider Registration. (Must provide certificate). Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills. This position requires being on your feet for extended periods and ability to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning patients; you will also need to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment.
Preferred Qualifications: 1 year of Emergency experience. Recent nursing experience in a tertiary/urban centre. Recent critical care experience in the last 2 years. ACLS, TNCC, ENPC, PALS, NRP – Preference given to applicants with 3 of 6 (must provide certificate prior to interview). Certified Emergency Nurse (CAN or CNE) an asset. Preference to those with strong assessment, organizational, patient care and leadership skills. Triage and/or charge nurse experience.
