Overview

Your Opportunity: As a member of a multi disciplinary team, the experienced peri-operative RN has focused skills in a variety of services that would include: Urology, General Surgery, Thoracic, Plastic/ Oral Maxiofacial Surgery, Neurosurgery and Orthopedics. Both scheduled (elective) and unscheduled (emergency) surgery is performed and the position requires the incumbent to do on-call shifts. The RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care during the peri-operative patient experience in accordance with hospital policies and standards. It is expected that the incumbent is able to provide leadership in clinical practice through management of patient care, anticipate needs of the patient including ensuring equipment and supplies are available for the required cases. The RN assumes responsibility and acts as a resource for staff skill development and support. As a leader and role model, the individual must demonstrate a professional, positive attitude, excellent communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills and is able to contribute to quality initiatives and promotes a professional work environment at all times.

Description

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse within the past five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required prior to employment: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4) and NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification.

Additional Required Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years current general operating room experience in a high acuity OR; Experience in a team leader role; Experience in a charge nurse/leadership role; Ability to collaborate within the expectations of an integrated team; Advanced problem solving skills integrating critical thinking and good judgment; Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform repetitive movements; Capable to lift, push and pull up to 20 lbs; Strong interpersonal and written communication skills; Computer skills including experience with electronic charting & Microsoft Outlook. Preferred Qualifications

Peri-operative Certificate from an approved school of nursing. Canadian Nursing Association (CNA) Certification in Peri-operative Nursing. Preference given to candidates with previous operating room experience who have taken a perioperative undergraduate course. At the discretion of the hiring manager, additional perioperative nursing education may be considered. Only candidates who submit a current resume will be considered for an interview.
