Job Title: Registered Nurse
Status: Regular Part Time
Department: Child/Adolescent Mental Health
Program: Mental Health & Addictions
Schedule: Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends - 8 and 12 Hour Shifts (Subject to Change)
Location: Lakeridge Health Oshawa
Wage Schedule: $39.070 - $56 per hour
ONA: 2500001096

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working within a multidisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse will conduct patient physical health and mental health assessments, contribute to the development of treatment plans, and deliver interventions within the Child and Adolescent Inpatient unit. Interventions include crisis assessment and management, medication administration, facilitating group work, and providing individual and family support/counselling/health teaching. The Registered Nurse will document all aspects of patient care and actively participate in patient care meetings. The Registered Nurse is responsible for maintaining all relevant statistics.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Registration (in good standing) with the College of Registered Nurses of Ontario;
  2. Demonstrated commitment to maintain Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CNO;
  3. Current B.C.L.S;
  4. Minimum of 3 years of Inpatient or Community Mental Health experience - Child and Adolescent Mental Health experience is preferred;
  5. Certificate in Child and Adolescent Mental Health or Mental Health is an asset;
  6. Canadian Mental Health Nursing Psychiatric Nursing Certificate is preferred;
  7. Demonstrated skills and abilities in completing physical health assessments as well as mental health assessments on children and youth who have serious and persistent mental illnesses;
  8. Demonstrated ability to provide therapeutic and psycho-educational interventions on a group and individual basis;
  9. Demonstrated understanding of mental illness in children and adolescents and proven ability to create and implement care plans for children and youth with mental illness;
  10. Demonstrated ability to assume a charge role;
  11. Clear understanding of current best practices and evidence-based interventions for children and youth with mental illness;
  12. Demonstrated knowledge in the area of psychopharmacological interventions for children and youth with mental illness, and proven ability to identify and effectively intervene with related side effects;
  13. Effective crisis intervention skills;
  14. Effective verbal and written communication skills;
  15. Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills;
  16. Ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary team;
  17. Ability to demonstrate nursing leadership, exercise initiative, and observe strict confidentiality;
  18. Must have satisfactory performance record;

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and the Ontario Nurses Association (RN Bargaining Unit Local 051).

Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
